My message to the Ashtanga Yoga community and Yoga seekers at large regarding Ashtanga Yoga and imposed governmental regulations:

I teach Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. I have been granted this authority by Jois directly with certification from him that was officiated by the government of India. I take this bestowed responsibility of preserving this tradition and it’s integrity seriously and therefore I state the following…

I will not teach this practice maintaining a prescribed distance from my students.

I will not teach wearing a mask.

I will not ask students to wear a mask. Materially obstructing the air passageway is strictly contra indicated for this practice.

I will not require medical testing for students to receive these teachings.

I will not require vaccination for students to receive these teachings.

While practicing with a fever is contra indicated within the teachings of this practice, I will not violate the self sovereignty of my students by taking their temperature as a requirement to practice with me.

In all regards I will continue, through this teaching, to help individuals foster and strengthen their own liberation and self sovereignty. I will not contort this practice for overreaching governmental restrictions that infringe upon our aim of Yoga.

In regards to alternatives for direct, in person teaching of this practice— there are none. I will not participate in the experiment of online teaching. I see this type of interference in the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga as being a corruption of the practice, it's method and intended results.

It is my wish and desire that we, as an Ashtanga Yoga community, can remain connected and continue these teachings correctly (in the way that is prescribed by the tradition as set forth by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois echoing a thousands year old lineage) and not allow infringements by our government/s to corrupt their integrity.

If you agree with the spirit of my statements here, I would be happy to hear from you in hopes to strengthen the bond of those who wish to focus on maintaining the authenticity and therefore the power and effectiveness of our beloved Ashtanga Yoga system.

I will not be holding any public State sanctioned classes until all State and local “emergency” orders are lifted.

These Ashtanga Yoga teachings shall remain consecrated to Universal law.

Greetings from Los Angeles, California where teaching Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is (still, for nearly 9 mos. now) against the State and local “Covid19 Orders”.

My message to my State and local authorities:

I see these orders as an overreach of your authority. I do not follow them willingly.

I ❤️ Guruji

Thank you Sri K. Pattabhi Jois for taking us in to teach us Ashtanga Yoga. You took us despite our being Westerners, despite which country we were from, despite our race, our gender, our caste— all of which was taboo at the time.

You were a black sheep in your community but you didn’t let that stop you. Your neighbors frowned upon you, looked down upon you, but you invited us in to your home for Yoga teachings anyhow.

You poured your heart and soul into your teaching whether is was one student or one thousand students there to learn from you.

You had a vision that Yoga is for “all peoples”. Thank you for your courage and bravery in sticking to your vision even in the midst of the animosity that surrounded you.

It would be many years before you began to receive the accolades you deserved. You were not looking for accolades, you were looking to serve humanity.

If it were not for your bravery and courage and belief in what you saw to be true, I would not have been blessed with these teachings, so many would not have been blessed with these teachings.

You changed the world for the better.

God bless your soul.
