Why would you use half guard as self defense? This question came up in kids class last night, so Coach David got the gloves out. “Don’t let them hit you in the head!”

Move yourself away by managing your distance, block the throws with your arms, or close the distance and wrestle up. This was a fun exercise to remind ourselves of practical, defensive uses of our sport.
