Some things don’t change, even after 25 years.
NWSAM was founded in 2001 with three guiding principles:
🌲 To foster compassion for the animal community.
🌲 To support a higher standard of practice within our industry.
🌲 To nurture the continued growth of our student body.
You may have heard us talk about these principles before, more than likely quite a few times! There’s a reason for that… These aren’t simply words we wrote down when NWSAM was founded and then filed away. They continue to shape the decisions we make, the way we teach and the standards we hold ourselves to every day.
They remind us why this work matters.
Compassion keeps the animal at the heart of everything we do. A commitment to higher standards keeps us questioning, learning and striving to improve the profession. And nurturing our students means creating an environment where practitioners can continue to develop their knowledge, confidence and skills throughout their careers.
After 25 years, the industry has changed. Our understanding of animal therapy has evolved. Education has changed. Our students and their needs have changed.
But our foundations remain the same.
These principles are what keep us grounded, focused and accountable. They are the driving force behind our work and a constant reminder that how we educate practitioners matters just as much as what we teach them.
25 years on, these principles still guide every step forward.
