🌈 Rainbows over the meadow, sleeping under protective trees, a giant trust caterpillar winding through the woods, delicious Syrian food, lots of laughter, learning, and reconnection… VWP Staff Orientation is a wrap! 🌲💚

We spent these past few days reconnecting with one another, the land, and the practices that ground our work together.

We were especially grateful to spend time learning Twulshootseed with David Turnipseed from Puyallup Tribal language (puyalluptriballanguage.org), and we closed by reading aloud the names of all the children we’ll soon welcome back to VWP programs. Hearing those names made it real. We’re almost there! 💚

Attention is the beginning of devotion. - Mary Oliver

We can’t wait to see you out there!

There's still room for a few more children!

🍂 VWP Families & Friends, start gathering your gear! 🥾🌲Our Annual VWP Gear Swap is coming up!

As you sort through closets and gear bins, set aside any gently used outdoor gear your family has outgrown or no longer needs. Think rain gear, boots, backpacks, warm layers, outdoor clothing, tents, camping gear, and other adventure-ready treasures.

Give what you can, bring what you can, take what you need, and help keep good gear in our VWP community and out on the trails! ♻️💚

What if one of the most important parts of your child’s week happened outside?

A morning in the woods. A circle of friends. Sandy hands, new skills, big questions, quiet observation and the growing confidence that comes from knowing how to belong in the natural world.

At Vashon Wilderness Program, kids don’t just learn about nature. They build a relationship with it and with a community that sees and supports them.

🌿 Fall programs are enrolling now. If you’ve been thinking about VWP for your child, this is a great time to join us.

What a week at Fly Fishing Camp! 🎣🌲💙

Ten lucky kids spent an unforgettable week exploring the incredible waters of the Pacific Northwest, from rivers to a lake to the ocean, and discovering just how much there is to love, learn, and protect.

A huge thank you to the amazing Emerald Water Anglers team, and for bringing this experience to life with us. From casting and tying flies and learning about wild fish and their habitats to grabbing snorkels and getting an underwater view of the ecosystems we care so much about, every day brought a new adventure.

These kids didn’t just learn how to fly fish. They came away with a deeper connection to our watersheds, the creatures that call them home, and new ways to appreciate and care for the beautiful places of the PNW.

Ten kids. One outstanding week. Big smiles, new skills, endless curiosity, and a whole new appreciation for the waters and wild creatures of the Pacific Northwest.

Here’s to the next generation of anglers, explorers, and watershed stewards! 🐟🌊🎣

One of the unexpected gifts of last week's summer camp

The sound of paddles.
Canoes gliding across the water.
Songs carried on the breeze.

Children paused.
The day paused.

A reminder that some of the most meaningful moments aren't planned, they're simply received.

We're grateful to the Indigenous canoe families for sharing this living tradition and for the opportunity to witness it with respect, gratitude, and wonder during our beach day at summer camp.

Stories are at the heart of the Vashon Wilderness Program experience.

Throughout the year, our mentors share stories that spark imagination, pass along timeless wisdom, inspire curiosity, and help children deepen their relationship with the natural world. Gathered beneath the trees, around a campfire, or sitting together on the beach, stories become a way to slow down, listen, and connect.

This photo features Mentor Jacqui, one of our incredible storytellers. With warmth, humor, and a gift for bringing characters and landscapes to life, Jacqui has a wonderful way of captivating children and inviting them into the adventure. Her stories encourage wonder, courage, kindness, and a deeper sense of belonging in nature.

✨ Storytelling is one of the oldest ways humans have learned from one another. We're grateful to keep this tradition alive with the next generation.

🌲 Do you have a favorite story you still remember from your childhood? Share it with us in the comments!
