Youth Philanthropy Program

Youth Philanthropy Program Currently, the program is inactive. This program engaged local youth leaders in philanthropy by immersing them in grantmaking decisions and processes.

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington operated the Youth Philanthropy Program to inspire, equip, and mobilize young people to take action that changes their community and themselves. It was an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to serve as governance architects, fund developers and grant committee members, as they distributed funds to organizations that addressed the needs of local youth. Each year, an amazing group of students defined their purpose and focus for granting, established review criteria and selected grant recipients. Along the way, they polled their peers, volunteered at several nonprofits and conducted eye-opening site visits. The result: a newfound understanding of what need truly means and the many ways we can all be of help.
