Butterflies are quietly disappearing across the United States, but research at WSU Vancouver is helping make a difference.
Earth.com recently highlighted the work of WSU Vancouver conservation biologist Dr. Cheryl Schultz, whose research is advancing our understanding of butterfly population declines and informing conservation efforts across the country. Her work demonstrates how university research can have a meaningful impact beyond the classroom—helping protect biodiversity and the ecosystems we all depend on.

Our Master in Teaching candidates put their research in the spotlight at this year's MIT Research Gala, sharing creative projects, innovative teaching strategies and the work that's preparing them to make a difference in classrooms.
From thought-provoking conversations to well-deserved celebrations (and plenty of snacks!), the gala was full of learning, inspiration and Cougar pride.

It's not too late to make progress toward your degree this summer at WSU Vancouver.
Late Summer Session courses begin June 22 and June 29, giving you another opportunity to earn credits, stay on track for graduation or get ahead. With courses lasting just six or seven weeks, it's easier to fit classes into your summer schedule.

🎓 Know Before You Go: Commencement 2026
Commencement is tomorrow, VanCougs! Here are a few important reminders before you arrive:
🎓 Rehearsal is today from 5:15–6 p.m. at the ceremony venue
⏰ Rehearsal attendees should arrive by 4:30 p.m.
🚗 Parking is free for both rehearsal and commencement
📱 Have your Stage Pass QR code ready on your phone or printed out
🔋 Charge your phone and turn up your screen brightness for scanning
👜 All guests and graduates will pass through a metal detector at entry
🚶 The ceremony lasts about two hours and includes outdoor walking
Commencement gates and concessions open at 4:30 p.m., and the procession begins promptly at 6:15 p.m.
