Veterinary Dentistry for Technicians and Veterinarians (4 hours lecture, 4 hours lab)

Date: April 17, 2026 (Friday)

Program Description: This 8-hour CE course (4 hours of lecture and 4 hours of laboratory) is for technicians and veterinarians and is designed for technical aspects of veterinary dentistry in the dog and cat. It is instructed by two Board Certified Veterinary Dentists®. The 4-hour didactic course curriculum will start with canine and feline nomenclature and examination, periodontal probing, and dental charting for medicolegal documentation. Intraoral dental radiology for anatomy and common pathology will be presented. Regional nerve blocks for analgesia will be presented. Dental operatory and equipment maintenance, sharpening, and care will be present. Periodontal disease and complete periodontal cleaning will be presented. The laboratory portion will be hands on wet lab with regional nerve block administration, intraoral radiographic positioning, dental prophylaxis, charting, instrument care, and dental unit care. The course will provide canine and feline dentistry education and skills for primary care veterinary practice.

Step-by-step oronasal fistula repair will be presented. Fractured teeth and bonded resin sealants will be discussed and covered step-by-step. Surgical extraction of the maxillary molars and surgical site closure will be presented. Surgical complications, prevention, and management will be covered. Periodontal treatments beyond periodontal cleaning, including but not limited to, bone augmentation, guided tissue regeneration, osseous resective surgery, open root planing, and periodontal treatments will be presented. The laboratory portion will be a hands-on wet lab instruction for oronasal fistula repair, surgical extraction of caudal maxillary dentition, application of bonded sealants, bone augmentation and guided tissue regeneration, and periodontal surgery. The course will provide canine dentistry education and skills for primary care veterinary practice.

We are back after being shut down through COVID and then building our own clinic. CE is starting up again out of a new education center - 2026 (4 courses). Later this year we hope to add 8 courses for 2027.

We have locked in 4 dates for 2026 for teaching and plan 8 +/- dates for 2027.

Date 1: Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8, 2026
Program Title: Fundamental Canine and Feline Dentistry and Surgical Extractions (8 hours lecture, 8 hours lab)

Date 2: Thursday April 2 and Friday April 3, 2026
Program Title: Intermediate Canine Dentistry Beyond the Fundamentals in Practice (8 hours lecture, 8 hours lab)

As you know, Covid-19 shut down our teaching capacity (Veterinary Dentistry Education and Consulting Services) in 2019-2020. Then Alice, Heather, and I built our own standalone Clinical Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery Specialty Clinic, Pet Dental Specialists (https://pdsvet.com/) in Vancouver, WA, USA. We offered a few small group opportunities out of our clinic in recent years. The previous iM3 facility we taught out of has been in transition the last several years with their vision and growth. We a SUPER excited to announce they are finishing the FIRST North American iM3®ACE Advanced Center for Education. We have been given the privilege to see the site in construction, Vancouver WA USA. It is 0.5 miles from our clinical hospital. It is amazing! Alice and I had the privilege to see their European Facility in Ireland in 2022. A YouTube video of their European Center in which the North American Center is modeled after can be viewed (iM3 Ace Advanced Center for Education - Europe). This is going to allow a great facility for not only the Pacific NW and Western USA and Western Canada, but also for veterinarians and technicians from all of North America and the world.

It has been 5 years for Dr. Sievers, DAVDC and Dr. Stepaniuk, DAVDC... Covid shut down the in person CE business, the location we used for labs could no longer accommodate, we left our hospital, worked outside non-compete, built our own privately owner dentistry and oral surgery center 2022 to present, now looking to 2025 to locate and collaborate for a facility to re-start veterinary dentistry and oral surgery laboratory courses again in 2026... a journey.....
