October means pumpkins in our classrooms. Our children are following the whole lifecycle of a pumpkin this month. Seed. Sprout. Vine. Flower. Green pumpkin. Orange pumpkin.

Other harvest fruits and vegetables come along with it, and crafts and art projects bring every stage to life. Fridays belong to spiders and bats.

One theme carries counting, new words, science, and art through the whole month. Ms. Dailey, Mrs. Files, and our teaching team plan it that way.

Mr. Chris Bauman added something special to our Wednesday morning.

Joseph was our Bible story this week. A coat of many colors, brothers who treated him badly, and forgiveness that came years later.

Color is a language our children already speak, so the coat gave them a way in. Sibling stories gave them another. In our classrooms forgiveness looks small. Someone knocks over a tower. Someone says sorry. A block gets handed back.

Our teachers name those moments when they happen, and this week they had a story to point to.

Noah was our Bible story this week, and it is one our children wait for. Animals two by two. Rain that would not stop. A big wooden boat. Then a rainbow, and a promise.

Our teachers read a little each day and recapped it together on Thursday. Pairing up the animals turned into counting practice. Naming them turned into new words.

Our children will be watching the sky for rainbows all fall now.

This is what is happening in our PreK class.
We have a Spotlight Reader!! This student got to read to the class today. He read this book perfectly, word for word, not memorized.
His classmates listened and watched in awe.
He was reading three letter words at the end of the 4’s class last year and now reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear!! We are so proud of him and so appreciate the work his family does at home with him.

We had a Fantastic Friday class!!
Learning about apples and Johnny Appleseed. “Oh the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord”!

This week our children heard about Creation, and then Adam and Eve. Seven days, one garden, and a whole world worth looking at.

Three and four year olds are already good at noticing. They stop for beetles. They spot the moon in a morning sky. This story gives them a reason for all that wonder, and a job to go with it. Take care of what you have been given.

Crafts and coloring pages carried the story all week long.
