📢 CALL TO ACTION: Stand Up for Inclusivity in Battle Ground!

Battle Ground City Council is considering a proposal to begin each council meeting with a prayer. Just a few months ago, the council denied a Pride Proclamation, calling it "controversial" and saying it wasn’t inclusive of *all* residents. Prayer at meetings raises similar concerns for inclusivity, and it’s crucial we make our voices heard!

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1️⃣ Email the City Council to express your opinion on the matter. Let them know that inclusivity means respecting diverse beliefs and perspectives—meaning people of all faiths or no faith.

https://www.cityofbg.org/FormCenter/City-Council-38/Contact-Us-City-Council-General-Inquiry-125

2️⃣ Attend Monday’s City Council Meeting and share your thoughts during the public comment period. Comments are typically 3 minutes but may be reduced to 1 minute if there are many speakers, so please be ready with a brief version of your message.

Meeting on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Battle Ground City Hall, located at 109 SW 1st Street, Battle Ground, WA 98604.

3️⃣ Can’t attend in person? You can give comments via Zoom! To participate, email the City Clerk by FRIDAY to receive the Zoom instructions.

📧 City Clerk’s Email: [email protected]

🚫 Not a Battle Ground resident? You’re welcome to come to the meeting to show support, but please note that public comments are reserved for residents.

____________________________

Why This Matters: A policy meant to serve all residents should honor diverse voices and avoid favoring one belief over others or the absence of belief. Acknowledge Battle Ground’s diversity by standing up for inclusivity in government practices.
