Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools Helping students get to school happy, healthy and ready to learn. Approximately 22,000 students attend Vancouver Public Schools.

Over half qualify for subsidized meals, which is a federal indicator of poverty. That's approximately 12,000 youth in our own community who lack the basic necessities to be successful in school and in life. The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools is an independent, 501(c)3 educational non-profit corporation established in 1988 to support Vancouver Public Schools. Donations from individuals, businesses, and other non-profit organizations are directed to programs and projects where funding is not available. Our programs include a Basic Needs Checkbook at every school, medical & dental care, mentoring programs like Lunch Buddies and Young Women in Action, classroom enrichment grants, and scholarships for graduating seniors.

Meet two more of our incredible Family-Community Resource Coordinators!

Students have even given them superhero names:

🎒 Yvette = “La Señora de la Mochila” (or “The Backpack Lady”) because she's always helping students get the supplies they need to come to school ready to learn.

🍎 Veronica = "The Snack Lady" because students come visit when they’re hungry, or just need a pick-me-up.

No two days are the same for Yvette and Veronica. Each day brings new opportunities to support students and families and make a difference in their school community.

Through the work of our amazing FCRCs and the support of our community partners, we're helping remove barriers so students can learn, grow, and thrive.

How One Donor Helped Save Four Staff Positions

For retired teacher and longtime Foundation supporter Jan Oliva, investing in early learning means investing in the future of our community.

When Washington State funding cuts put several Transitional Kindergarten (TK) positions at risk, Jan stepped up with generous support to help preserve four staff positions — helping more young learners get the extra support, confidence, and skills they need to thrive. 💚

Meet Lori.

As a dedicated member of the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools Board of Directors, Lori Wick helps guide our mission, shape strategy, and ensure we stay focused on supporting students and families across Vancouver Public Schools. We're grateful for volunteers like Lori whose leadership helps keep the Foundation moving forward!

When asked why she chose to serve, Lori shared:

“I decided to get involved with the Foundation after becoming a Lunch Buddy in 2008, seeing the needs of the individual students, and recognizing how much the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools supported the FCRCs, the children, and their families.”

Thanks to the dedication of community members like Lori, the Foundation is able to remove barriers and ensure students and families have the support they need to thrive.

Meet Kelsey.

Kelsey is one of our Family-Community Resource Coordinators. As a mobile coordinator, she supports students and families at eight schools across Vancouver Public Schools. One day she may be helping a family with rent or utility assistance. The next, she's delivering shoes, hygiene items, school supplies, or other essentials.

“That is one of the best parts of my job - seeing the immediate impact of resources you’re able to give to a student, that makes such a difference,” Kelsey said. “Giving a student a new pair of shoes – I have seen such tremendous rewards from that. You’ll have kids who didn’t feel confident coming to school because they have old shoes, but you give them a new pair and suddenly they’re coming every day.”

Through the support of our Family-Community Resource Coordinators, the Foundation helps remove barriers so students can learn, grow, and thrive.
