I was born in Germany in a military family that moved many times my first eleven years of life. When I was a young woman I felt the call of the world and moved to Hong Kong where I lived for almost seven life shaping years. I had friends from all over the globe in that pulsing metropolis.
I don't really aspire to explore much overseas as international travel causes me some anxiety that road trips never do, yet once I get across the pond my nerves settle down and I revel in discovering new sounds, places and glorious people of another culture.
Tomorrow I travel to places I've never been as I seized the opportunity offered me to teach in Gubbio, Italy from Art and Soul.
And since Im traveling so far to teach why rush home? I am able to stay longer after the creative retreat is over. I have wonderful friends who I will be meeting up with in Venice [you'll see who when I get there !]
After that one of those wonderful friends and I will travel to Genoa for a week of leisure and gentle exploring. We are agreed that we shall not build an ambitious itinerary but will instead ease into the rhythms of where we find ourselves.
I had hopes go sneak over to Scotland for a whirl since it is close by, but travel schedules and flights did not work out so homeward I shall return with a belly full of Italian bread and w**e.
Im excited for all my students who have chosen to spend this week in Gubbio making art, expanding their expressivesness with new forms of art making and also excursions that will explore the region which will fuel fresh inspiration. We shall discover together the wonder of it all.
I sat under my trees last night for a long while. I will miss them, and I hope to meet some new trees as I travel Italy to make acquaintance with. I am a weirdo that way, the one who thinks she can hear trees whisper their hellos that leads to outloud introductions. This is how I met Grandfather Maple and the Three Sisters on my beloved forest walks. Who will I have the pleasure of meeting in Italy? What beautiful trees will I flirt with?
Tomorrow begins the long journey. I am so grateful.
