Mariner Moments – Catching Kids Being Awesome!
🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today we’re celebrating something near and dear to our hearts—READING! 📚💙
Ms. Albright’s class had the incredible privilege of welcoming author Belen Medina to read two of her books, Emilia Wishing and So Many Questions. What an amazing opportunity for our Mariners to connect with a real author and learn more about the writing process! ✨
Our students asked thoughtful questions and shared their wonderings, including:
📖 How long does it take to write a book?
📖 What other genres do you write?
📖 Emilia Wishing almost sounds like poetry. Was that on purpose?
After hearing Ms. Medina read So Many Questions, students were curious about the naturalization questions featured in the story and wondered if they would know the answers. Ms. Medina even shared some of the actual questions included in the naturalization process. What a powerful opportunity to learn, think, and wonder together!
Everyone has the opportunity to hear Ms. Medina read! This Sunday at 1 pm she will be reading Emilia Wishing and signing books at White Oak Books in downtown Vancouver!
As if that wasn't enough reading excitement, we also want to celebrate Ms. Mogan’s class, which earned a special Library Award for taking the very best care of their library books this year! 📚🏆
And get this... they checked out and read 745 books this year! 🤯🎉
Now that is some serious reading!
We are so proud of our Mariners for embracing books, asking great questions, and growing as readers every day.

Mariner Moments – Catching Kids Being Awesome!
🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today is both a CATCH and a RELEASE! 🌟🐟
First, our Catch of the Day goes to five amazing Mariners who were caught during their Character Strong lessons. This month, our focus is Creativity, and students across the building are learning about emotions, self-awareness, and regulation strategies.
💙 Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students are practicing identifying feelings and emotions and noticing where those feelings show up in their bodies.
💙 Our 2nd graders are learning how movement can be used as a regulation strategy for both the body and the brain.
💙 Our 5th graders are exploring proactive and reactive strategies for managing stress.
We love how these lessons connect from Kindergarten through 5th grade, giving our Mariners opportunities to better understand themselves, build important life skills, and be ready to learn. (And yes... those awesome SBA scores we shared yesterday don't happen by accident! 😉)
A huge shoutout to our five catches of the day for their engagement, participation, and thoughtful contributions during SEL time! 🌟
Now for our RELEASE of the Day! 🐟🌊
All year long, with the support and guidance of Ms. Williams, our school community has participated in raising salmon through our partnership with Columbia Springs. Today, our 4th grade Mariners traveled to Salmon Creek and helped release our salmon back into their natural habitat.
What an incredible opportunity to be scientists, conservationists, and environmental stewards in action! We are so proud of our students for helping care for these salmon and learning firsthand about the important role they play in our local ecosystem.
🎥 Be sure to check out the video of this special release!
PS- Carnival is this Friday! Come join the fun! Check out the Human Jukebox rehearsing for their performance at the Carnival!

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today’s catch is our entire Mariner community! ⚓💙🌟
Over the past several weeks, our students and staff have been working incredibly hard on end-of-year assessments, including the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and our final i-Ready assessments of the school year.
We are absolutely ecstatic to share that Fisher’s Landing outperformed both the district and the state in every grade level and every subject area on the SBA! 🎉📚📈
This accomplishment belongs to all of us. Thank you to our students for their hard work and perseverance, our staff for their dedication and expertise, and our families for your partnership and support. We simply could not do this without everyone working together toward the success of our Mariners.
This is Mariner Pride in action! ⚓💙
And because our June focus is Creativity, we just had to share some of the amazing artwork displayed throughout our building. 🎨✨ Our students continue to amaze us with their imagination, talent, and unique perspectives.
And... 🎶 you asked for more fun videos! Here's a peek into our kindergarten students learning and performing the Creativity Song. Their enthusiasm and joy are guaranteed to make you smile! 😊
Thank you for being part of such an incredible community. We are so proud to be Mariners!

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today’s catch goes out to the amazing seniors from Mountain View High School! 🎓⚡
We absolutely LOVED welcoming them back to inspire our Mariners during today's Graduation Walk. Our entire school lined the building, clapping, cheering, and celebrating these incredible seniors as they walked through in their caps and gowns.
Especially close to our hearts were the former Mariners who are now Thunder! ⚓➡️⚡ It is always so special to see where our students' journeys take them, and today was a powerful reminder of all that lies ahead for our current Mariners.
One of our favorite moments was watching siblings find each other for a quick hug and a smile. Those connections remind us that our schools and community are truly connected from kindergarten all the way through graduation. 💙
Thank you, Mountain View seniors, for inspiring our students and showing them what is possible through hard work, perseverance, and determination.
Congratulations, Class of 2026! We are so proud of you and can't wait to see all the amazing things you accomplish next. 🎓✨

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today we’re celebrating FOUR Mariners—we just couldn't narrow it down to two today! 🌟
Eleanore and Mick were caught during writing time. They chose to read about fascinating plants and the adaptations they use to catch prey. They even taught us about the teasel plant and how it can trap insects! 🌱 Both of these Mariners were focused on their writing, doing their very best work, and sharing their learning with enthusiasm. We love seeing students get excited about reading, writing, and discovering new things!
Our next catch of the day goes to Nare. During writing, another student needed help forming a particular letter. Rather than simply giving the answer, Nare showed her peer where they could find a classroom resource to help them. Not only did she support a classmate, but she also helped build independence by teaching them how to access information on their own. What a thoughtful and empowering way to help others learn! 💙
Our final catch of the day is Sianna, who was writing about the "Ice Cream Kingdom." During a conversation about her story, she confidently declared that it was actually an "ICE CREAM QUEEN-dom!" 👑🍦 Oh yes it is, Sianna—yes it is! We absolutely love the creativity, imagination, and confidence she brought to her writing.
And… 🎨 take a look at some of the recent artwork from our students! We just can't get over how talented our Mariners are. Whether through writing, art, problem-solving, or helping others, our students continue to amaze us every day! ✨

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today we’re celebrating Tennam and Andy for their hard work during social studies! 🌍✨
Our 3rd grade classes have been learning about cultures from around the world, researching and discovering what makes each one unique and special. Tennam and Andy were both able to share their prewriting and research and are now working on creating a polished, published piece of writing.
We are so impressed with the thought, effort, and learning they have put into this project! The best part is that all of this work will culminate in a special parade around the school, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their learning and teach others about the cultures they studied. What a wonderful way to celebrate learning and learn from one another! 🌎💙
And... as we have mentioned a few times... 😄 our Lost and Found is EXPLODING! 🧥👕🧢 Please come collect your treasures, Mariners! There are many jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and other belongings hoping to find their way back home before the end of the school year.

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today we’re celebrating Laila and Lucas for demonstrating our June character focus: Creativity—using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem! 🌟💡
As a school, we reflected on a quote from Albert Einstein: "Logic will take you from A to B, but imagination will take you everywhere."
Laila was caught being an outstanding partner as her class brainstormed creative ideas for a brand-new ice cream flavor. 🍦 She listened thoughtfully to others, shared her own ideas, and helped her group think creatively together.
Lucas was caught sharing his imaginative thinking during writing. His class was writing about a picture of a person wearing a hat that made ice cream, and Lucas had wonderful ideas to share with his classmates. His creativity helped bring the story to life! ✏️✨
Creativity matters! Our Mariners are future scientists, artists, storytellers, teachers, engineers, inventors, and so much more. We love seeing them use their imaginations to explore new ideas and possibilities.
And… 🌲💦 we just have to share some pictures from our 1st grade field trip to Columbia Springs! What an incredible opportunity to learn outside the classroom and explore our local environment.
🎭 And... take a sneak peek at the upcoming performance of "Shoes"! Our students have been working hard, and we can't wait to see them shine on stage.
Keep dreaming, creating, and thinking big, Mariners! 💙⚓

🎣 Catch of the Day at Fisher’s Landing!
Today we’re casting another WIDE NET—and we’re just buzzing about it! 🐝🌼
All of our 1st grade classes came together during science to learn from Ms. Roseann, a real-life beekeeper! What an incredible opportunity to see science in action and learn from an expert.
Our Mariners learned so many fascinating facts about bees, including:
🍯 Honeybees visit thousands of flowers to make just one pound of honey.
🌻 Bees are important pollinators that help many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we enjoy grow.
👑 A hive has one queen bee, thousands of worker bees, and a smaller number of drones.
Throughout the presentation, our students excitedly shared their knowledge, made thoughtful predictions, and offered educated guesses. We were so impressed by their curiosity, engagement, and love of learning!
A huge thank you to Ms. Roseann for providing such an amazing real-world learning experience for our Mariners. Opportunities like these help bring classroom learning to life!
Science in action—we LOVE it! 🔬✨🐝
AND... 🧥 we did find homes for 3 jackets today! 🎉 But there are still so many more waiting to be reunited with their owners. Please come find your lost and found items, Mariners! Your favorite sweatshirt, coat, water bottle, or mystery treasure might be waiting for you. 😄
