The Well Nutrition has been with us from the very beginning! They were the first one to open their doors to the TTW program, the first one to open their hearts to our students by teaching real-life work skills and have been one of their biggest cheerleaders!

They continue to show up and support us! THAT is what makes a community thrive and THAT is what allows our students to thrive.

We are so thankful to have developed a great partnership with them and appreciate all that they do for us!

The juniors normally don’t start off-site placements until later in the year, but these two were ready! They knocked it out of the park…and are already excited to go back next week! Great job!

Sometimes we have a shift in plans…and it is a great opportunity to teach the students to learn to adapt. Today the juniors were asked to help our maintenance department unload and stock new supplies. They didn’t hesitate to help out.

Then in the afternoon, the seniors pitched in to help preserve a bushel of apples they were given. We didn’t quite get all of them finished, but we do have a lot of apples that have been peeled, cored and frozen. We are already drooling over all of the ways to prepare them. We don’t have a lot of time this week for baking, but when we carve out some time, we will get create and share our work!

The kids kept me hopping today and so didn’t get any pictures of them in action. We finished up several store projects, tidied up our work area and spent some time harvesting from the garden.

The colder temps have kept us inside this week, but it was a beautiful day out. Overall, we picked 89 pounds TODAY! Our peppers and green beans have been beautiful and bountiful lately. Here is a picture of about a third of what we picked today.

The HAPPY CART made its way around to our staff today! The seniors took the cart filled with snacks and treats around to share some HAPPY to all of our hard working Vantage staff members. They love getting to do this “just for fun” and the smiles on the staff faces is all of the motivation they need.

We try to do this occasionally throughout the year to give a little “pick me up” and to let our staff know how much we appreciate their support. Who doesn’t love a free treat once in a while? Well done, fellas!

Our Tuesday Drinks for staff is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! This is an activity that the juniors do and teachers so many great skills. We have staff fill out a google form to place their order. The juniors learn to write out an order ticket, arrange the tickets, prepare the drink from a recipe, deliver the drinks to the staff, take the donation and make a deposit.

Each facet teaches an important skill. All syrups are made from scratch and the student shop for the ingredients. They learn technology, learn to take orders, read recipes, learn their way around d the school, get to know the staff, learn financial management, learn customer service skills…and soooo much more!

The donations they collect are given to local organizations that the students choose and on occasion, they get treated to a lunch at a local restaurant, which is also a learning experience. Tuesday Drinks is an activity that our students and staff both look forward to each week. We started out with a small menu this week with cold brew and hot lattes (pumpkin spice was our flavor) and they debuted Vanilla Cream Dirty Soda!

The kids did great! The staff reviews were great! And we can’t wait to try it again next week! We are so thankful to our staff for supporting this.

We had a successful COOK-OFF CHALLENGE this week. Each month we will try to hold this event. The “rules” are quite simple. Each student makes a variation of a specific food item, they each prepare their recipe and the staff get to taste-test and place a vote. Each student was also able to take a sample of their recipe home, if they chose to.

This month we made SALSA! Most of the items were from our own school garden, so our shopping list was small. Our recipes ranged from traditional tomato based salsa, to more intricate recipes including a mango/avocado and a corn salsa. Each recipe received several votes and it was a tight race….however, Auggie’s tomato salsa recipe emerged as the victor.

Most of the staff commented that they would gladly eat any of them and that it was hard to vote for just ONE! This was such a fun activity that we added this year and I think it is here to stay!

Yesterday was our first day at Paulding County Hospital - Ohio. After learning the ropes a little, our crew finally got the hang of it. We are so excited for this new placement and the educational opportunities our students will gain. This is a much bigger facility than they are used to and they did a great job of navigating where they were supposed to be and picking up on new tasks!

The Juniors are on 🔥!

Thursday they had their first Working Lunch of the year. For this activity, the students plan a meal made from scratch, invite several support staff members, use technology to send an invitation and gather meal options, get the grocery items needed, prepare the meal, set the table, seat the guests and hold dinner conversations. During the meal, they get to know our support staff members and learn more about them.

Friday, they went to Wal-Mart to pick up a load of donations for the Feeding America Program and then took the items to the Caring & Sharing Food Pantry in Paulding. This is something they do each month. They learn how to receive the items in and help complete needed tasks at the Pantry.

They topped their day off by having a great time at our Student Appreciation Day!
