This year, Mrs. Jackson is starting with our ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ artists who are exploring lines, shapes, and a whole lot of color! ๐๐จ
"First grade students tackled a colorful abstract project by looking at the work of Australian artist ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐บ๐ถ๐๐ต. We discussed her art using our artful thinking routines. After studying and talking about her art, which uses a lot of lines, shapes and colors, we decided that it was abstract and not REAListic, as it is not a picture of something from REAL life like a cat or a house.
Then we reviewed geometric shapes (shapes we know the names ofโฆ square, circle, triangle) and learned about organic shapes, or shapes that we can't name and that occur in nature (puddles, clouds, rocks, etc.).
Finally, we got to work using our paint sticks to make colorful organic shapes, filling our paper so there was no white space left. Then we began printing our colorful lines using the ends of erasers dipped in paint. We made colorful rows of lines, thinking about which color line would show up best on each part of our organic shapes background.
The result: pure happiness and fun ๐คฉ. ๐ช๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ด๐ผ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ!"
