Thank you for your interest in new driver training.
Excel’s owner, Stu Summers, is moving closer to retirement. He has suspended enterprise-scale operations at Excel and is transitioning to self-employment.
Good news! Excel is negotiating with a potential buyer of the business, which means continued driver education based in Valparaiso. We hope to have the transaction completed this Spring.
In the meantime, if you would like to start the required 30-hour online course, you can register now for only $25 (Visa or MasterCard ). However, since we can not guarantee that we will be capable of providing the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training until closing the sale with the new owner, 15-year-olds will not yet get a “CDE” form (certificate of driver education) until the balance of the tuition ($445) is paid later this spring.
Students who register and complete the online course will be given priority for admission to the behind-the-wheel portion of driver education with the new owners.
If for some reason the sale does not go through,
-Excel will award you a certificate of completion for the 30-hour online course, which you could take to another licensed driving school and enroll in just their behind-the-wheel curriculum.
Students are expected to complete the online course within 60 days of enrollment:

However, one of Excel’s instructors, Mr. Quincy Ford, is going into business for himself. The BMV has awarded Mr. Ford’s company a license to operate a driving school in Indiana. If you are interested in enrolling with Mr. Ford, please email him:

Excel’s owner is planning to retire early next year. Excel is not taking any more registrations for new students.
HOWEVER, one of Excel’s instructors is in the process of getting a driving school license from the State of Indiana. We project that process will take about a month. Once he is licensed, he can accept new students.
If you would like to get on a list for registering at the new school, please send an email to [email protected]. Include the student’s name, birthdate, phone number, and the best email address to respond. Excel will forward your interest to the new school, who will contact you after the license is granted.
Students enrolling will first complete the 30-hour online course. Then, when the weather permits next spring, driving lessons can be scheduled in Valparaiso, Michigan City or LaPorte.
