A childhood fascination with weather has taken Daniel Murphy ’24 farther than he ever imagined — all the way to Antarctica!

After building his forecasting skills through the Valparaiso University - Meteorology Program, close faculty mentorship, and hands-on learning, Daniel supported weather operations at McMurdo Station and is now working as an operational meteorologist back in Indiana.

At Valpo, students don’t have to wait until graduate school to contribute to meaningful scientific research. This summer, students, alumni, and even a local high school senior are working alongside faculty to investigate a health concern aboard the International Space Station.

It’s the kind of hands-on opportunity that builds confidence, deepens curiosity, and helps students see where their education can take them – perhaps even beyond Earth! Read more: bit.ly/valpoISSwork

With over 20 intramural sports and leagues, Valpo Campus Recreation & Well-Being offers students of all backgrounds a community to stay active and make new friends – whether they're trying out a new sport and turning the page on one they already love.

Students (including the incoming Class of 2030!) can learn more about intramurals here at Valpo at the Valparaiso University Student Life Student Involvement Fair during Welcome Week on Friday, August 28 from 4–6 p.m. on the West Lawn.

In the meantime, more information can be found at valpo.edu/intramurals.

A personalized lullaby can become so much more than a song — it can help a new parent feel seen, supported, and even more connected to their baby!

Through Carnegie Hall’s Lullaby Project, Valpo music therapy student Breanna Webb ’26 worked alongside new and expecting parents to turn their stories, cultures, and hopes into lullabies created just for their children.

The experience gave Breanna the chance to grow in confidence, strengthen her skills as a future music therapist, and see firsthand how music can create comfort, connection, and care.
