We were honored to host the 2019 Great Lakes Regional Conference which included the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition and the ASCE Great Lakes Student Conference. We had over 500 students and faculty from 18 other universities in attendance. We would like to thank everyone who helped plan, run and attend the event. We would also like to thank the entire College of Engineering and all of the Civil Faculty for supporting us during the entire process. We would like to thank Ronald Black for being our banquet keynote speaker. Congratulations to all the schools that placed in all of the mini competitions and congratulations to UW-Madison for placing 3rd, MSOE for placing 2nd, and to Trine University for winning the overall conference. We hoped you all had a great time and we are looking forward to GLSC 2020 in Madison.

Our next new e-board member is Joey Black who will be serving as Vice President in 2019. In addition to ASCE, Joey is involved in the Valpo Cross Country and Track teams and on GM's House Council.
Joey wants to be a civil engineer because, "I grew up in a family of civil engineers. My mother and father are civil engineers, they always shared stories about their work and really showed me the variety of ways they made difference in the lives of other people. My parents impressed on me the idea that no matter what I end up doing I should make the community a better place. Going into college I knew I wanted to be an engineer, but I didn’t know what type. After taking an intro class, GE-100, and talking with one of the civil professors, I decided on civil engineering. Civil engineering appeals to me because you can easily see the impact you have in others lives, and you never do the same project twice."

Happy New Year! We're going to be ringing in 2019 by introducing our new e-board members.
Benjamin Ewert will be serving as Secretary in 2019. In addition to ASCE, Ben is involved in Sigma Phi Epsilon and plays the trumpet in campus music ensembles. He is also an Eagle Scout and wants to be a civil engineer because, "I have always had a love for drawing/designing bridges and designing roadways. Being a civil engineer involves both of those things."
