“Dennington was most surprised by the fact that student stress is higher this January than last January, he said, since people are used to the pandemic now, which could lead to lower stress levels. Instead, many students are feeling hopeless, Dennington said, despite the wide availability of COVID-19 vaccines.”
Students are more stressed now than last January In a new survey, 51 percent of students said they are experiencing more stress and anxiety than they did last January.

Hello Valparaiso graduates of the Sociology/Criminology program!
As you consider participating in the Day of Giving, Proud to be Valpo ( ), consider donating to your home department so that students will be able to participate in two unique learning experiences.
https://crowdfunding.valpo.edu/s/1347/17/cf-interior.aspx?sid=1347&gid=1&pgid=2584
Students taking our Sociology classes will be able to participate in a trip to The Plant in Chicago. While visiting this non-profit, students will learn through a hands-on workshop about sustainable recycling and food production in an urban closed-system farm. The trip gives students a chance to see how urban renewal can be achieved in disadvantaged areas, and how inequality and sustainability can be linked.
Students enrolled in the Penology course will further their examination of prisons, jails, community corrections, and patrolling authorities by visiting the Cook County Jail in Chicago. This trip will provide students with the opportunity to understand how one of the country’s largest jails addresses criminal justice.
Strengthening Valpo’s commitment to service, both of these learning trips would also include a half-day of volunteering with a local organization dedicated to addressing inequality in the criminal justice system or sustainability efforts.
By making a gift to this Crowdfunding project, you will empower students to develop a deeper understanding of social issues. Your support provides a life-changing experience, as they will gain first-hand knowledge of the career they are progressing toward as sociology and criminology degrees.
Make your gift today and then share our project on your favorite social media platform to help spread the word.
Gifts to this project will count toward Day of Giving, Proud to be Valpo on April 10, 2019.
