⚙️ Build the skills that keep modern industry moving.
Ivy Tech Community College – Valparaiso is offering PLC Level 1 Boot Camp Training, a 32-hour hands-on training opportunity designed to introduce participants to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and their role in automation and control systems.

Participants will build practical skills in common PLC logic, minor online programming edits, and troubleshooting—skills that can translate directly to today’s manufacturing and automation environments.

Sometimes, finding the right career means trying a few different paths before discovering the one that feels right. 🔍🤔

Meet Trey Hurrle, an Ivy Tech student who has explored multiple areas of the skilled trades, including Industrial Maintenance and Welding Technology. Trey has completed courses in Stick, MIG, and TIG welding, building a well-rounded foundation and realizing that welding is the trade he wants to turn into a career.

Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, Trey knew he wanted a career that would provide a strong future—and after experiencing several different trades throughout high school, welding quickly stood out.

Trey is taking the next step in that journey as he begins a new position at Bale-Master in Crown Point. After completing his education at Ivy Tech, his goal is to join UA Local 597 and continue developing his skills while building a long-term career in the trades.

From the classroom to the shop floor, Trey is putting in the work today to create the future he wants tomorrow.

What a night celebrating our students! 🎓💚

Last night, Ivy Tech Community College brought together students, families, colleagues and community partners for our annual Chancellors’ Scholarship Event — an evening centered on opportunity, achievement and the power of investing in student success.

We were proud to recognize this year’s Chancellors’ Scholarship recipients from our Valparaiso and Lake County campuses and celebrate the James W. & Betty Dye Foundation as our 2026 Benefactor of the Year.

These scholarships represent so much more than financial support. They help students stay focused on their goals, continue their education and build brighter futures for themselves, their families and our communities.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the event and continues to believe in the potential of Ivy Tech students.

Student Spotlight: Brailyn Baker 💡🌟

Brailyn had never welded before he decided to pursue a career in the skilled trades, and he's already putting in the work to build a brighter future with Ivy Tech's Welding Technology program. He has embraced the challenge and discovered a genuine passion for the craft since taking Welding Fundamentals and TIG I this past summer.

Brailyn aims to continue sharpening his welding skills, gain valuable on-the-job experience, and ultimately become a full-time welder and union member after graduation. While he's excited to learn the trade, he's also looking forward to the opportunity for long-term growth and a better future.

🎉 We’re bringing home a win from the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival! Ivy Tech Community College – Valparaiso was proud to once again participate in this year’s Popcorn Festival, where our float was recognized as Second Runner-Up!

From designing and building the float to walking in the parade, this was truly a team effort. Thank you to all of our students, faculty and staff who contributed their time, creativity and energy to bringing our entry to life and representing Ivy Tech in our community.

We loved seeing Team Ivy Tech come together to celebrate one of Valparaiso’s favorite traditions—and we’re proud of what we accomplished together. 💚
