August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month!
Emergency management professionals work behind the scenes every day to prepare communities, coordinate resources, reduce risks and guide recovery when emergencies occur. Their planning and leadership help ensure first responders, organizations and residents are ready when every second matters. (Porter County Emergency Management Agency pictured here from June)
At the MAAC Foundation, we are proud to support the training, collaboration and partnerships that strengthen emergency preparedness throughout Northwest Indiana and beyond.
This month, we recognize the dedicated emergency managers whose work helps build safer, stronger and more resilient communities. Thank you for all you do, before, during and after the emergency.

Congratulations to the graduates of the MAAC Foundation’s first Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class!
Last night, we celebrated nine dedicated individuals who completed the training needed to provide critical care during the first moments of an emergency. Their commitment represents an important step forward for both their communities and the continued expansion of EMS programming at the MAAC as we look towards the completion of our new HQ building later this year!
We are grateful to Lead EMR Instructor Mike Parks, for guiding this inaugural class, and to the United Way Northwest Indiana for providing funding that helped make the program more accessible to participants.
Please join us in congratulating our graduates:
Cody A. Fladeland
John A. Hawkins
Douglas R. Heurich
Walt F. Lourens
David I. Martin
Gary T. Miller
Kenneth D. Sandine
Stuart D. Summers
Stanton B. Ward
Congratulations, graduates, and thank you for answering the call to serve!
