Our third-year OTD students just wrapped up their Leadership Seminar where they created and presented on proposals for new service lines and community projects adjacent to the field of occupational therapy.

The third-years are now on Level II Fieldwork rotations as they have officially completed in person lectures! Congratulations on this milestone, we can't wait to see where fieldwork takes you.

Who says OT only happens in the clinic?

In our Leadership Seminar, students heard from five occupational therapists who are proof that an OTD can take you almost anywhere. Each guest joined us via Zoom to share their career path, their "how I got here" story, and advice for the next generation of OTs:

Reagan, an OT Promoting Travel Therapy through , bringing OT skills to new settings across the country
Logan, an OT that is CEO of Indianapolis Rehabilitation Hospital, leading at the executive level
Bee, an OT that is an Independent Contractor (1099), building a flexible, self-directed practice
Priscilla, an OT in the Digital/Tech space, shaping OT's role in user experience design
Alicia, an OT doing Medical Sales, bridging clinical expertise and industry

Five completely different paths with one shared foundation in occupational therapy. Our students walked away with a much bigger picture of what's possible after graduation, and a reminder that leadership shows up in every kind of role.

Our students will each be hosting an interactive activity table designed to promote and educate children and families about different areas of health, wellness, and participation through an OT lens. Come learn, play, and see occupational therapy in action!

🍂 In honor of the first day of fall, we’re looking back at a few memories from our summer semester!

Our second-year OTD students spent the summer learning and getting hands-on experience in rehabilitation and orthopedic practice settings. Now, they’re taking those skills with them as they head into a new semester!

We’re excited to partner with Valparaiso University’s Education program Valparaiso University Elementary Education Program for Family Story Time! 📚

This interdisciplinary collaboration gives OT and Education students the opportunity to work together while supporting skills important for children’s development and participation in school, including confidence, social skills, sharing, and engagement with others.

Join us Wednesdays from 11–11:30 a.m. in Loke Hall for stories, activities, and fun! All are welcome!

Each Friday, our OT Valpo students share meaningful occupations to spread awareness of the power of occupation and the role of OT practitioners.

"I spent my morning volunteering at the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. I worked on assisting an assembly line for packaging bags of various food items to be delivered to local food pantries. This occupation benefits Porter County residents experiencing food insecurity. Access to healthy foods will positively impact the health and quality of life for these individuals".
