The Valley Stream Central High School District is one of only three New York State Districts covering grades 7-12 exclusively. The District operates one junior high school for grades 7-9 (Memorial Junior High School); one senior high school for grades 10-12 (Central High School); and two combined junior and senior high schools for grades 7 -12 (North High School and South High School). Students en

ter the District's secondary schools after graduation from one of the 10 schools maintained by Elementary Districts Thirteen, Twenty-four and Thirty--whose combined outer boundaries are coterminous with the boundary of the High School District. In addition to the major portion of the Villages of Valley Stream and most of North Valley Stream, the District also consists of parts of Elmont, Franklin Square, Lynbrook and Malverne. Approximately 4,600 students in grades 7 through 12 are enrolled in our schools and are served by a professional staff of over 450 teachers, specialists, administrators, social workers and registered nurses.

Memorial’s Summer Bridge program kicked off this week, welcoming over 200 future Memorial 7th graders for a preview of life at Memorial and helping them get ready for a successful school year! Led by Memorial School Counselor Ms. Jackson and Memorial School Psychologist Mrs. Bryan, Summer Bridge helps students build connections, develop middle school readiness skills, and feel at home in their new school community. During the first week, students participated in community-building activities and circles, received their IDs and laptops, spent time outside enjoying the beautiful weather with activities led by BOCES, and, most importantly, began getting to know their new classmates! It was a wonderful first week for the future Class of 2031! One thing is for sure—this crew is ready for Week 2!

10th Grade Orientation – 10:00 AM
Start your high school journey with confidence! Meet your counselors and administrators, learn about school expectations and resources, receive your locker fob, and take your school ID photo.

11th & 12th Grade Welcome Back Orientation – 6:00 PM
Reconnect with classmates and staff, review important information for the upcoming school year, explore clubs and activities, and replace lost ID cards or locker fobs if needed.

The Valley Stream Central High School District's Summer Bridge Program for incoming 7th graders continues. North's session wrapped up last week with some outdoor fun, and Memorial's begins this week. Students had the chance to explore their new school, build friendships, and ease into high school life.

This July, nearly 200 students from across Valley Stream participated in the Valley Stream Central High School District’s Summer Music Program, a three-week intensive designed to develop musical skills while building confidence and a lifelong love of music.

The program serves both students from Valley Stream’s three elementary school districts as well as high school-aged students. Returning student musicians continued developing the skills they acquired during the school year, while incoming fourth graders from Valley Stream 13, 24, and 30 received a valuable head start on instrumental instruction before formal lessons begin in September. All students attended two 50-minute small-group lessons each week.

"One of the highlights of the summer was watching students continue their musical journey outside of the regular school year,” said Monique Retzlaff, Director of Fine and Performing Arts. “Their dedication and the outstanding work of our music teachers made this a rewarding experience for everyone involved.”

Congratulations to Central's FBLA students on an outstanding showing at Nationals in Texas!

A special shoutout to seniors Alyssa "Zen" Singh and Kayla Duncan, who advanced to the Broadcast Journalism Finals, finishing among the Top 16 out of more than 150 competitors!

Congratulations also to seniors Sophia Ahmed and Vincent Harris, along with juniors Aisha Ahmed, Victoria Magloire, AJ Castillo, and Umair Zafar, who represented Central with confidence, determination, and professionalism in their events.

Beyond the competition, the students embraced every opportunity, supported one another, and represented Central with pride. Congratulations on an incredible national experience!

Mr. Strauss, Mr. Pearson, and Mr. Jara proudly represented Memorial Junior High School at the National Schools to Watch Conference in Washington, D.C., where Memorial was formally recognized as a National Schools to Watch school.

The conference brings together exemplary middle schools from across the country to share innovative practices through hands-on learning sessions, collaboration with fellow educators, and keynote presentations.

Receiving this recognition for the fourth time is a meaningful reflection of Memorial’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and creating a supportive environment where every student can succeed.

Central High School proudly congratulates our 57 graduating seniors who earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy! This prestigious honor recognizes proficiency in English and at least one additional language.

Students showcased their skills through presentations in French, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. A special shout-out to Mikal Myers-Boyce, who earned dual Seals in both French and Japanese—an exceptional achievement!

Memorial Junior High held its annual 8th grade moving up ceremony this week, marking the students' transition to high school. The afternoon included speeches, certificate presentations, and a chance for families and staff to celebrate together. It was a good moment to look back on what this class has accomplished during their time at Memorial. Congratulations to the Class of 2030. We look forward to seeing you back next year as you start high school.
