Valley Center Middle School was excited to host approximately 23 schools yesterday for a Spirit Spreader, an intensive, single-day camp for cheer and dance athletes!

Throughout the day, athletes worked directly with collegiate-level instructors from the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) while focusing on athlete safety, proper stunting techniques, building team confidence and learning new cheers.

Thank you to the athletes, coaches and instructors who spent the day at VCMS!

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

USD 262 is fortunate to have several four-legged members of our school community. Our therapy dogs, Cooper, Daisy, Watson, and Nugget, provide support and companionship in our schools, while School Resource Officer Charlie works alongside Officer Fox to serve our students and staff at Valley Center Middle School.

This morning, Valley Center Middle School and Valley Center Intermediate School invited students and families to bring their dogs along for morning drop-off. Staff handed out treats to the dogs as they arrived at school to help celebrate National Dog Day.

When the staff and students at Valley Center Intermediate School returned for the 2026–27 school year, they had a new learning space to explore, thanks to the hard work and vision of Valley Center High School junior Emma White. As part of her work toward earning the Eagle Scout Award, Emma spent 10 months planning, building, and executing an outdoor classroom at VCIS.

The outdoor classroom features seating, a waterproof whiteboard, flower gardens, and hammocks where students can sit and read. Before the first day of school, Emma presented the completed space and her vision for it to VCIS staff.

Bringing the project to life was a community effort. Emma coordinated more than 50 volunteers who contributed more than 550 hours of work to complete the $7,500 project. She completed the project Aug. 10 and presented it to a Board of Review as the final requirement for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. She officially earned her Eagle Scout rank Aug. 23.

Emma hopes the new outdoor classroom will be a meaningful addition to the VCIS learning environment and that students will enjoy using the space for years to come.

Please welcome Yigit to the ! He will be a career and technical education teacher at Valley Center High School for the 2026-27 school year.

"My name is Yigit "Yee-it" Celebi, and I am thrilled to be joining Valley Center High School as the engineering and drafting CTE teacher. I am a graduate of Kansas State University. I am a structural engineer and licensed general contractor with more than 10 years of experience. I have designed and engineered schools, hospitals and stadiums, and built a custom home from the ground up with my own hands, as well as completed many remodels and renovations.

I am a proud Wichita-area resident, and outside of work, you will find me spending time with my family and friends, staying on top of world news, exploring new places and traveling, riding ATVs and spending time outdoors, playing with heavy equipment or finding something to build.

From the moment I connected with the USD 262 team, I felt something you just cannot fake: genuine care for students and a community that shows up for each other. That is exactly the kind of place I want to pour my energy into. I am also very excited to be part of an amazing new facility, and I am most eager to develop this program to inspire and motivate students toward careers in engineering.

Walking into a classroom full of future engineers is the most exciting project I have ever taken on. I could not be more excited to meet my students, get to know the Valley Center family and see what we build together. Go Hornets!"
