Piano Teacher Bikes the California Alps
July 9, 2016 was the day of the Death Ride, Tour of the California Alps. Sponsored by and benefitting the fire and safety core of Alpine County, it is a grueling ride of 129 miles over five passes with an elevation gain of 15000 feet through some of the most spectacular terrain in California. Mr. Ortiz completed 75 miles and three passes, realizing just over 10000 feet of elevation gain. After several months of training, now it's time to relax a bit and spend more time practicing piano!

Kodaly must have been right in his belief that music is as integral to our humanity as is speech.

Pedals on a piano that play notes? You betcha! From harpsichord to the piano we know today there were many permutations of the instrument including one that was piano at one end, harpsichord at the other.

Happy birthday to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! This grand piano is attributed to Johann Schmidt of Salzburg, a friend of the Mozart family, whom Leopold Mozart (Wolfgang's father) helped to secure the job of court organ and instrument maker in Salzburg. In the 1980s, an extensive cleaning revealed the initials of Wolfgang Mozart scratched inside long ago. It is possible that Mozart played this piano in Salzburg. http://met.org/1Pivtb8

Attributed to Johann Schmidt (1757–1804) (Austrian) | Grand Piano | ca. 1790–95
