From a student who struggled in school to an educator who now helps young people discover the power of their own voices, Moira Bielby’s journey is a reminder that our paths need not be perfect to lead us exactly where we belong.

Bielby has taught in VCUSD since 2006 and now teaches eighth-grade English language arts at Hogan Middle School. In her classroom, students are encouraged to take risks, persevere through challenges, and recognize that their words can change hearts, minds, and the world.

The shovels were ceremonial, but the progress is real!

Today, VCUSD leaders, students, staff, alumni and community members gathered at Jesse Bethel High School to celebrate the renovation of the school’s athletic fields.

The $23.8 million project, funded through Measure S and Community Facilities District No. 2, will include:

A new synthetic turf football and soccer practice field
A new track for practices
New baseball and softball turf
New bleachers and scoreboards
A new restroom facility

The new track and football/soccer field at Jesse Bethel will be used for practices. Football, soccer, and track meets will continue to be held at Corbus Field.

Thank you to , and Greystone West for partnering with VCUSD to bring this vision to life.

The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2027, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for a celebratory ribbon-cutting!

Participants engage in ongoing professional development closely tied to their classroom practice, allowing them to refine their teaching approaches to enhance student learning outcomes while working toward clearing their Preliminary California Teaching Credential.

Thinking about a career in teaching? VCUSD's Teacher Induction Program is here to help you grow, connect, and thrive from day one. Learn more and see if it's the right fit for you!

We've been having such a good time at August Summer Nights in downtown Vallejo all month long, and we’ll be back at it again tonight! It’s been our pleasure connecting with the community, from families asking about back-to-school to community members curious about careers with VCUSD; we've loved it all. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., come find our table (corner of Georgia and Marin)! Whether you're thinking about enrolling, looking for your next job, or just want to say hi, we'd love to chat.

We took Responses from Rubén on the road — this time, to our Back-to-School celebration at Loma Vista Farm! Jasmine, a sixth grader from Patterson Elementary, joined us to ask Superintendent Rubén Aurelio some of the questions on our community’s mind, including school enrollment, class sizes, and the dual-language immersion program at Cave Language Academy.
This series is about creating more opportunities for open conversations, asking questions, and learning together as we move through the school year. We invite you to follow along, hear directly from district leadership, and submit the questions you’d like answered next.

Have a question for Superintendent Aurelio?

Throughout the weekend, Kaiser Permanente and Solano Public Health provided free vaccinations to students who needed them to attend school. With support from our VCUSD teams, families also received outreach and continued follow-up to help students meet immunization requirements and return to the classroom.

We are grateful to our partners and staff for coming together to support the health and success of our students and families!
