We are dedicated to create an environment in which differences are both welcomed and appreciated. The Unity Council at Cal Maritime serves as an advisory group to the President and Cabinet on issues of unity and diversity at Cal Maritime and ensures compliance with state and federal equal opportunity regulations. Celebrate JUNE: The National Caribbean American Heritage Month! In June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H. Con. Res. 71, sponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. Since the declaration, the White House has issued an annual proclamation recognizing June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Check out some events in your area and have fun at the festivals!!!

DON'T forget May 22nd is National Maritime Day! This day reflects the gratitude that Americans have for the maritime industry and the benefits it brings to the country. It also recognizes ships and seafarers who have held a special place in the nation's history. Check out some events in your area over the summer!

JUNE is LGBT Pride Month!
At hundreds of events around the country, LGBT people and allies are able to show their support and celebrate LGBT rights and the LGBT community.The month of June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBT people have had in the world. So, check out some events in your area and show your support!
