On Friday, students in Mrs.New's Literature/Composition III walked into class to find a crime scene waiting for them to kick off the first week of school! They became detectives and had to work through evidence, witness statements, and case files to figure out one big question: Who kidnapped the millionaire?

As they worked, they were putting some important skills to work—inferencing, using context clues, reading comprehension, and critical thinking. It was a fun, hands-on way to review the foundational skills they’ll need to be successful readers and writers this semester.

Mrs.New loved seeing her students get into the mystery, work together, and realize that learning doesn’t always have to look like a traditional assignment!

Mrs. New’s class is officially on the case!

Lowndes High School head coaches gathered last week to kick off a new school year and another exciting year of Viking athletics! 🏆

We appreciate all our coaches do to lead, encourage, and invest in our student-athletes both on and off the field. Here’s to a great year ahead!

Congratulations, Yug!

🎉 Congratulations to Lowndes High School student Yug Patel, 2026–2027 Georgia TSA State Treasurer!

Superintendent Sandra Wilcher recognized Yug at tonight’s Board of Education meeting alongside Lowndes High School TSA instructor Dr. Matthew North and LHS Principal Krista Pearson.

Yug is the first Lowndes High TSA student in six years to earn a Georgia TSA state officer position! A five-year TSA member who began his journey at Hahira Middle School, Yug recently represented more than 570 Georgia TSA members at the 2026 National TSA Conference in Washington, D.C.

We are incredibly proud of Yug and look forward to seeing him continue to represent Lowndes High School and with excellence as he serves TSA students across Georgia this year!

A huge thank you to Outback Steakhouse of Valdosta for helping us celebrate the end of our first week of school with an incredible Teacher Appreciation Lunch! 🍽️❤️

Our faculty and staff were treated to a delicious meal, thoughtful goody bags, and a $10 Outback gift card for every employee. To top it all off, two lucky teachers each won a $50 Outback gift card!

We are so grateful for the generosity and support Outback continues to show our school and our educators. Community partnerships like this make a lasting difference and remind our staff just how appreciated they are.
