Vail Mountain School

Vail Mountain School Educating and elevating humans for good.

We inspire tomorrow’s ethical leaders by developing character, seeking knowledge, and building a community of lifelong learners from the heart of the Colorado mountains to the world beyond. Founded in 1962, Vail Mountain School was established for the benefit of the resort's first employees' children, allowing them to spend almost as much time on the mountain as in the classroom. Fifty years later

, VMS still combines recreational ski days with a unique blend of progressive and traditional education ideal for college-bound students, and is known as much for its academic rigor as its magnificent location. Co-curricular programs take full advantage of the school's surroundings in the community of Vail and the White River National Forest. Located 100 miles west of Denver, VMS provides flexible programming for aspiring snowsport athletes committed to a college preparatory education.

This summer, VMS teachers Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Scherpf spent three days in Louisville learning about Project Based Learning (PBL) and exploring how inquiry, student-generated questions, and meaningful driving questions can transform the learning experience.

The workshop gave them time to develop new project ideas and rethink existing ones, with a focus on giving students greater ownership of the inquiry process. They also explored practical strategies to help students stay organized and engaged throughout a project.

We are excited to see how these ideas take shape in our classrooms this year.

Friday's SummerQuest graduation celebrated three decades of helping local middle school students build confidence and strengthen academic skills.

This year's celebration was especially meaningful as Sally Ryerson, VMS Class of 2012, completed her first summer as SummerQuest Director. As a student, Sally dedicated her Senior Project to SummerQuest, an experience that inspired her to pursue a career in education. Today, she is leading the very program that helped shape her path.

Thank you to Alpine Bank for its longstanding partnership in making SummerQuest possible for generations of Eagle County students.

In 2009, when Sally Ryerson began volunteering with the monthlong academic program SummerQuest during her summer break in high school, she was hoping for some direction. What she didn’t expect was that she would be...

SummerQuest began with a simple mission: help students stay engaged, inspired, and connected throughout the summer. Today, that mission remains as strong as ever.

As we kick off our 30th year, we're celebrating the generations of students, families, teachers, volunteers, and community partners who have made SummerQuest such a special program.

A special thank you to Alpine Bank for their continued support in helping make SummerQuest possible for our community. Here's to another incredible summer of learning, growth, and connection!

Our College Counselor, Ms. Ferrara, recently led 45 independent school counselors on a three-day tour of Colorado colleges and universities, coordinating visits to CU Boulder, Colorado School of Mines, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado College, and Regis University.

The experience provided valuable conversations and collaboration between college admissions professionals and independent school counselors, strengthening the relationships that help guide students through the college search process. After exploring campuses across Colorado, the group continued to the annual Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools conference at the University of Denver.

Our students are incredibly fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, respected, and dedicated college counselor guiding them through one of life's most important journeys.
