AFSA Charter School opened its doors as the Agricultural and Food Sciences Academy in the fall of 2001 for grades 9-12. Additional grades were added and finally in the fall of 2019 AFSA added grades K-4 and open AFSA Elementary in Little Canada only a few miles from the high school building. PreK was added in 2024. AFSA now serves over 450 students from over 20 different MN school districts. AFSA

provides transportation via school buses and vans to about 70% of the students attending. Our full-service kitchen cooks delicious meals at the high school and delivers the food to be served at our K-8 building. AFSA is committed to small class sizes and hands on learning. Each location has a maximum of 300 students to ensure a community where everyone can know everyone. Target class size remains at 25 or less, with lower numbers in the younger grades. AFSA students, families and staff have a strong sense of community and many activities are done for the purpose of developing strong relationships and a sense of caring. Parents and students share stories of a caring environment where their children are safe, how they fit in, have friends, and how they are accomplishing more than they thought possible in a caring environment.

Our Farewell to AFSA event was a wonderful way to bring our time to a close. There were over 500 people who attended the event. We are pretty sure there was at least one person from every class in attendance. We celebrated those we have lost and the special people we met along the way. Earlier this week the AFSA 2025-2026 staff got together one last time to celebrate the year. Staff who have been with AFSA for 5 and 10 years were celebrated as well as staff that were retiring. Thank you to everyone for a great final year!

We have received some calls and emails from people wanting to attend this Farewell to AFSA celebration but are worried that it is past the RSVP deadline. The RSVP was to get a count for food. Please feel free to still attend even without an RSVP. We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to say goodbye.
