Summer break doesn't mean a break from great food. 😋 VUSD is dishing up bagels, muffins, cereal, and yogurt for breakfast, plus weekly lunch favorites — like tri-tip sandwiches from the Buckhorn — as part of FREE breakfast and lunch for any child 18 and under, now through Aug. 7. Grab a plate at Eugene Padan Elementary (8–9 am breakfast, 12–1 pm lunch), Vacaville Town Square Library, or the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club. No meal service on June 19 & July 3. See what's on the menu each week at vacavilleusd.org/departments/student_nutrition. There's plenty to go around! 🥪

Real-world experience, real-world skills. 🔥 Five VUSD students are interning at Vacaville City Hall this summer, learning city government from the inside. Sophia Bailes is gaining experience in the City Attorney's Office, Iya Bondock and Jayro Espinoza are working in the Vacaville Fire Department's administration office, and Logan Roberts and Josue Medina are in the City Manager's Office — where they're also getting pointers on social media video production from the city's communications department. Today, all five completed fire extinguisher training led by Vacaville Fire Department personnel. The future of the community is in good hands.

Ten years ago, Vacaville High launched a summer math intensive to open a door that was nearly impossible to reach: AP Calculus BC by senior year. Taught by Chris Fickes, this five-week, four-hours-a-day course gives mostly rising juniors — and some rising seniors — the pathway they need, and has helped make Vaca High one of the only high schools in Solano County to offer BC Calculus.

Nearly 30 years. That's thousands of students taught, coached, and supported. Countless families welcomed. One community made stronger. ❤️ Last week, with his family by his side, the Board of Trustees honored Superintendent Ed Santopadre at his final board meeting — celebrating a career that took him from teacher, coach, administrator to the district's top leadership role. Thank you, Superintendent Santopadre, for every single year you gave to VUSD.

Art has a way of making big ideas visible — and third grader Elena Rodriguez did exactly that. 🎨 Elena, a student at Orchard Elementary School, took first place in the third grade division of the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District's 2026 Clean Air Art Contest! Her artwork, inspired by the theme "Heroes for Clean Air," will be featured on stickers and promotional items at community events. We are so proud of you, Elena!
