We are still feeling so much gratitude and joy from last Thursday’s performance for North Bay Regional Center’s Spring Resource Fair!

Our Hālau show was truly a hit, and we couldn’t be more proud of our amazing performers, Tutu Pulelehuapilialoha “Pili” and Vanessa, who represented us so beautifully. Their aloha shined through every moment.

We’ve been receiving so many wonderful compliments from those that attended and from the coordinators, and we’re excited to share that this is just the beginning.

They’ve invited us to partner with them as we move forward in opening hula and cultural classes for individuals with special needs. What a blessing and an honor to serve our community in this way.

We also want to extend a heartfelt mahalo to the North Bay volunteers … each and every one of you was so friendly, helpful, efficient, and truly a pleasure to work with. Your support made the entire experience even more special.

Mahalo nui loa as well for the generous donation toward a dance scholarship. Your support helps us continue to share hula and culture with those who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

The turnout was incredible, the vendors were plentiful, and the cultural foods… absolutely delicious! Such a beautiful celebration of community and culture.

Please enjoy some photos and videos from the event below. We’re so grateful to have shared this special day together.

RE: Kēhaulani’s Going Away Celebration

Our Hālau is preparing to send off one of our most cherished kumu, mentors, and sisters in hula, Poʻo Pua’a Kēhaulani 🌺

Kēhaulani was invited as 1 of only 5 students to apply for UC Berkeley’s Spring Valedictorian honor; an extraordinary achievement that reflects her discipline, brilliance, and dedication. With great ʻike (knowledge) and intention, she chose to extend her studies one more semester and answer another calling: to travel abroad and study at Yonsei University in Korea, often referred to as Korea’s Harvard.

In addition to her studies in Korea, Kēhaulani has aced an international interview and will most likely be receiving a summer job opportunity in Japan, continuing her journey of growth, learning, and cultural exchange. She will return to Berkeley in the fall to complete her degree, carrying with her the ʻike and experiences gathered abroad.

This Tuesday at 7:00pm sharp, we will gather together at Hale Ola in Hālau, Keiki, ʻŌpiʻo, and Mākua alike, to celebrate her and send her off surrounded by aloha. Our nā haumāna (students) will sing and dance as their makana (gift) to her, and we’ll share in fellowship (and homemade guava cake made by Aunty Tina Tofaeono 😋).

We would love for all Keiki to draw a picture or write a short poem for Poʻo Kēhaulani, to be presented as a keepsake from our keiki hearts.

As we prepare to honor her, we are reminded of this ʻōlelo noʻeau (Hawaiian proverb):

“He ʻohana kākou.”
We are all one family.

Kēhaulani leaves knowing she carries the love, prayers, and pride of her Hālau wherever she goes.

We are so proud of you, Poʻo Kēhau … go boldly, learn deeply, and know that your place here is always waiting.

Me ke aloha nui 💓

If any other friends outside of Hālau would like to join us and celebrate her, you can contact me at (707) 454-6173 to get directions, unless you already know where we live. 🌺
