Today our amazing TRiO students kicked off our Trailblazers Summer Academy! We had almost 40 students! Day 1 ✅

Today’s presenters focused on the following topics: Leadership, Social Emotional Learning, and Teamwork.

This morning our awesome TRiO students gave their service to the community of Uvalde in honor of Eva Mireles. Thank you to Mr. Ruiz, Ms. Maggie, and everyone who helped make this event possible. My students and I are more than happy to help and connect with the great city of Uvalde. Thank you to everyone who came together for such a great cause this morning.

This past weekend our amazing dedicated students took time on their Saturday and celebrated our National TRiO Day in Brackettville, Texas. The students had the opportunity to visit different universities who were present, participated in games and ice breakers related to college and future careers, and interacted with one another in a fun engaging manner!

This week our TRIO program had the chance to recreate, and establish a new culture when it comes to getting our students at Uvalde High School, and Morales Junior High the best resources to be successful individuals!

Our FOUR day TRIO Trailblazers Academy started on Monday, and we had speakers Shayanne, Tucker, and Zander from Paradigm Shift out of Oklahoma and they presented the students with employment workshops, leadership activities, and a mental health and wellness session through Tuesday afternoon! The students enjoyed every single bit of it!

On Wednesday, we had former TRIO Coordinator, and now Assistant District Attorney, Anyssa Barbosa speak to our students on her current and past endeavors, and entrepreneur Jack Hill from Caveman Nutrition blessed our TRIO students with awesome information on his path to being a successful business owner!

Today, June 20th we concluded with our “YOUNG AND DEBT FREE” Financial Literacy class with MJ Bridges from Atlanta, Georgia. The students learned about budgeting, scholarships, and other resources on how to manage money.

The TRIO program is committed to creating unforgettable experiences for our students here at Uvalde, and we cannot wait to get started for the next school year! Thank you to the students who made the effort in attending our four day TRIO Trailblazers Academy.

A few of our TRiO seniors participated in Senior Decision Day last night. It was a beautiful event hosted by Uvalde High School CCMR. Congrats to all!!!! We can't wait to see what your future holds! 🎊🎉

What an amazing couple days!! We traveled with our friends Crystal City to San Antonio. While there we visited University of the Incarnate Word, explored the Japanese Tea Garden, joined students from our sister grant from Eagle Pass & Bracketville for a career presentation with members of the Spurs organization, got to watch shooting up close (along with Dallas Cowboys great, Micah Parsons!!), then watched the Spurs WIN! Today we visited the San Antonio Zoo & ended our busy weekend at Incredible Pizza Company!

CONGRATULATIONS to TRiO members Marilyn & Zoey! We are so proud of you!!! 🏋️‍♀️🥇

Uvalde High School junior Marilyn Olivarez captured first place at the state powerlifting meet Friday, March 15 at Frisco’s Comerica Center.

Olivarez lifted a total of 1,055 pounds to take top honors in the 181-pound division of the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s state competition.

She squatted 410 pounds, bench pressed 265 pounds, and dead lifted 380 pounds on the way to her 1,055-pound total.

Olivarez topped her regional championship performance by 110 pounds. At the regional meet, Olivarez totaled 945 pounds.

Olivarez lifted 30 pounds more than state runner-up Kyene Harris of Decatur, who totalled 1,025 pounds.

Vidor’s Madison Watson placed third with a 1,010 pounds total.

Olivarez’s UHS teammate, senior Zoey Ibarra finished seventh in the 148-pound weight class of the state meet.

Ibarra had a total lift of 830 pounds, including a squat of 335 pounds, a bench press of 175 pounds, and a dead lift of 320 pounds.

Norris Nolyn of Henderson won first place in the weight class with a total lift of 980 pounds.
