We are the Biology Department at Utica University! Biology students at Utica University learn about science by becoming active scientists.

We emphasize the process of interpreting and creating biological knowledge by building real, hands-on research projects into our courses and by encouraging students to become involved in the ongoing research programs of our faculty. In this way, our curriculum extends beyond the traditional boundaries of the classroom to field and laboratory studies, seminars, conferences, and publications. Person

We have created a new Biology Department Student Travel Fund! This fund will support students as they travel to conferences to present their research. We'll tell you why/how it started in this thread!

Although Utica University has several wonderful sources of travel funding, these typically don't cover ALL travel costs for students.

We wanted to work towards equity by ensuring that ALL students have ZERO cost to present their research at a conference.

The new fund was seeded by the Asa Gray Growers Group (AGGG). AGGG held a plant sale this year so they could seed ( ) the fund with a $300 donation!

Another great story from Amie Lucia '05 about her mentor and , biology professor Adam Pack:

"I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Pack as my pre-med advisor and one of the largest influences on my professional life and career to date. He is not only a great educator and very intelligent individual, but he is truly dedicated to his students. I will always remember and try to live up to one of his common sayings 'talk is cheap.' Without his support, guidance and advice during my undergraduate time, I am not sure I would have made it as far as I have today with a professional career that I love as a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon in Upstate NY!"
