I had the honor of visiting North Heart Vet in the U.P last Monday for Emergency and CPR presentation and hands-on techniques practice.
General practice in veterinary medicine doesn't only mean we only see well or stable animals. Crisis can walk in the door at anytime, and we are the pet's first responders. CPR is not a required training for veterinary staff at this time. This can put strain on anybody and especially if you are not prepared for the situations. The guilt can eat one alive. Every professional has a different level of understanding and experience. Veterinarians guide their teams through the inevitable to success prior to arrest. The statistics of a pet returning home drops drastically after an arrest. Even the most skilled teams have less than 10% success. When every second counts, having your body trained to act makes a huge difference.
Emergency and urgent care pet facilities exist, but there are very few in South Eastern Michigan, and None in Marquette County. The team at this facility understands the needs of their patients and the community, and reached out to build up their knowledge and skills for when the crisis happens.The staff here cares deeply and is enthusiastic about the work they do and were kind and supportive of each other. After visiting I can attest, in confidence, in their ability to support clients, patients, and each other.
