Calling all MVCC students! The library needs your help!

We want to see if we can collectively read 100 books before December 11. All you have to do is read one book (not required for class) to help out. The submission form is on the library website.

What counts as a book? Graphic novels, audiobooks, manga, fanfiction, novels, poetry, and more! If you read it, we want to hear about it.

Let Books Be! Protect the freedom to read!

October 4-10 is Banned Books Week, an event built to call attention to the immeasurable value of free and open access to information (ALA). Access to books is access to worlds beyond our own, is an opportunity to increase knowledge and empathy, to understand ourselves and others, to freely express ourselves.

In addition to the banning individual titles (4,235 in 2025), legislation in several states has censored material by restricting access through relocation of materials or requiring parental permission.

If you want to learn more about banned books and the freedom to read, visit the library on either campus. Both libraries have displays of banned books that you may check out to read.

Join us on October 6 and 7 for special events focused on Banned Books Week. Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 12:00pm there will be a Banned Books Read Out in Schafer Theater. A collaboration between the Theater Arts Program, MVCC Library, and the Learning Commons, it is a chance to give voice to books that have been challenged or banned.

Later that afternoon, from 4:00-5:00pm come to the library and for our Read-In. Bring your current read, or find a new one, and spend time reading amongst fellow readers and participants of the Soar into Reading Challenge. A second Read-In will occur on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 12:00-1:00pm.
