| Person Struck, Killed by Train Near Whitesboro Street in Utica

UPDATED: April 6, 2026

UTICA — Utica Police and Utica Fire units were dispatched around 8 p.m. Sunday to the railroad tracks off Whitesboro Street near Handshake City after a CSX train conductor reported that a person had been struck by a train.

Utica Police confirmed the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Conductors reportedly assisted emergency responders in locating the victim.

The train appeared to be carrying cargo eastbound, meaning no passengers were believed to be directly affected by the incident.

Utica Police Department is investigating the incident in conjunction with CSX Railroad. Train traffic through Utica, including service to and from Union Station, was suspended during the initial investigation.
