Names (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) 03/06/2018

Hi fellow philosophers! This week we will be talking about the philosophy of language! This is the exact field where we will find things like the English language that we are so used to and accustomed to can have so many amazing connotations and interesting inferences. We will be engaging in several language puzzles that show the whimsical charms of philosophy as well as sophisticated theories in regard to the semantic content of language. It will be a great time! Here are this week's questions:
1. How does language gain its meaning? And what is the relation between them?
2. How does names refer to actual objects? Or does it refer at all?
3. Is language a subjective and private expression or a collective enterprise?

Civil Disobedience (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) 03/01/2018

Hello everyone,

We are going to be talking about political resistance this week. The questions we are going to be discussing are the following:

1. When are civil disobedience, revolution, and rebellion morally permissible?
2. What can a state morally do in response to them?
3. Must a person be willing to accept punishment in the case of civil disobedience?
4. When is violence permissible?

Here are some links to readings on the topic:

Civil Disobedience (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) What makes a breach of law an act of civil disobedience? When is civil disobedience morally justified? How should the law respond to people who engage in civil disobedience? Discussions of civil disobedience have tended to focus on the first two of these questions. On the most widely accepted accoun...

Hello Mathematicians! This week we are doing some paraconsistent logic!

This week questions are:

What are your opinions on the motivations of paraconsistent logic?
Is it possible for the world to be inconsistent?
What do you think of the viability of paraconsistent systems?
