As AI systems increasingly rely on massive datasets, one big question remains: how do data markets stay stable when the “product” is information itself?

New research from The Grainger College of Engineering researchers introduces a new framework for pricing data in AI-era markets — helping explain how stable pricing can emerge even when buyers and sellers value data differently.

The work, selected for an Oral presentation at 2026 International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), could help shape more reliable and efficient AI data economies in the future.

Students, faculty and researchers came together for the 3rd Annual ISE Student Conference. This year's event showcased innovative research in data-driven intelligent systems, AI, healthcare, manufacturing, analytics and more.

The event featured keynote presentations from Nagi Gebraeel and Navid Azizan, student presentations throughout the day, and an evening poster session and networking reception that highlighted the collaborative spirit and breadth of research of the ISE community.

We had a great time bringing together all of our SE101 LAs and TAs alongside our Product Design Lab RAs and REU students to celebrate a year of hard work! Thank you for the energy and leadership you bring to our students, classrooms and labs. We’re grateful for all you do!!

We closed out our final Engineer in Residence of the semester last week with ISE alum Andy Williams. His advice to students was this:

“Most engineers are trained to produce the right answer. The ones who change things learn to engineer the right decision.”

His career, spanning consulting, analytics, executive coaching and large-scale commercial strategy transformation, reflects that difference.

A strong close to the year — and a clear reminder of what we aim to build in ISE. Thank you, Andy, and all of our EIRs who have made such an impact on our students this year!

Nagi Gebraeel is the Georgia Power Professor in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, where he leads the Predictive Analytics and Intelligent Systems (PAIS) Research Group. His work focuses on developing predictive analytics and decision optimization models that improve the reliability, maintenance, and operational efficiency of complex industrial systems.

Navid Azizan is the Alfred H. (1929) and Jean M. Hayes Assistant Professor at MIT, where he holds dual appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Control, Instrumentation & Robotics) and the Institute for Data, Systems & Society (IDSS) and is a Principal Investigator in the Laboratory for Information & Decision Systems (LIDS). Previously, he held the Esther and Harold E. Edgerton (1927) Chair. His research interests broadly lie in machine learning, systems and control, mathematical optimization, and network science. His research lab focuses on various aspects of reliable intelligent systems, with an emphasis on principled learning and optimization algorithms, with applications to autonomy and sociotechnical systems.
