Topic for This Session
How to Use Git for Your Code and in Your Research:
Are you tired of sending around dozens of versions of a paper with edits? How about fixing the same bug in your code that has mysteriously reappeared? Version control can greatly simplify your research workflow, allowing you to more easily track changes, authorship, and merge various edits/contributions from your collaborators. In this workshop you will experiment with the basics of git to help manage a range of files, from code for your data analysis to text-based files for your research papers. You'll also learn a bit about how using version control will make your research more transparent, reproducible, and sustainable.

The Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) serves as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s window to the broader computer science, computational physics, applied mathematics, and data science research communities. In collaboration with academic, industrial, and other government laboratory partners, CASC is conducting world-class scientific research and development on problems critical to national security and foundational scientific advancements. You are cordially invited to join Rob Neely (UIUC CS alumni 1994) to learn about the CASC mission and the opportunities to join LLNL (located in the California Bay Area) as they lead the way into a new era of High-Performance Computing, Mathematics, and Data Science that blends cutting-edge research with mission-oriented programs of national importance. The delivery of the Sierra system (currently #2 in the world) and plans for an Exascale system in 2022 makes CASC and LLNL an exciting option for graduates looking to help build a vision of a new HPC and AI-based paradigm the new reality in tackling our biggest scientific and social challenges facing the world today.

"Computational Science at Sandia National Laboratories"
For more than 60 years, Sandia National Laboratories has delivered essential science and technology to resolve the nation's most challenging security issues. You are cordially invited to join UIUC CS alumni Dr. Chris Siefert and Dr. Fred Rothganger as they discuss their research as part of Sandia's Center for Computing Research, a collection of 150+ researchers in computer science, mathematics, engineering and related fields. They will give an overview of some of the research questions they and their Sandia colleagues are interested in, explain why they think Sandia is a great place for computational science researchers and have plenty of time to take questions. Find out why hundreds of your fellow Illini have decided that Sandia is the employer for them.
