The summer solstice is in June, and on this day, the world also celebrates World Music Day! On World Music Day, musicians both expert and amateur are encouraged to sing songs and play instruments in public. Come stop by and check out An Invisible River to Cross by Taraneh Matloob, illustrated by Kristen Balouch, on our S-Collection New Arrivals shelf! The book is about a girl named Afsi, who has recently moved to the United States with her family. She struggles to learn English at school and feels lost. She eventually comes to learn something new, opening up a future where she understands and fits in. You can find An Invisible River to Cross in SSHEL! This month's display in SSHEL celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. This year's theme emphasizes the importance of telling AANHPI stories, being bridge builders in the community, and leveraging collective power. It includes books with AANHPI voices for a variety of reading levels and genres.

This week is Children's Book Week, running from May 4 until May 10! Children's Book Week is a celebration of young readers, books, and the connections made that foster a love of reading. This year's theme is "Books: Get Curious" and is all about how we can encourage and help develop children's curiosity.
There are several resources to use to get involved, including coloring pages, make-your-own bookmark cutouts, ways to celebrate or host your own events, and a reading club for readers of all ages!
