The Department of Theatre and Film Studies at The University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sound Design, Sonic Arts, and Sound Production, beginning August 2025. We seek a dynamic, interdisciplinary scholar and creative practitioner capable of bridging the worlds of theatre and film through innovative sound design, audio post-production, and live sound reinforcement. A strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching is expected, with opportunities to contribute to multi-disciplinary courses and programs across the college.

The appointee will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, with an expectation of teaching an undergraduate course during their first semester. The position offers a chance to be part of a department that values academic innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Tenure and promotion will require that the candidate actively contribute to the vibrant creative and academic community at UGA and maintain an active professional presence in sound design and sonic arts or related fields at a national or international level.

At least 3-5 years of professional sound experience. Candidates without a terminal degree (or without a non-terminal master’s degree) must document exceptional accomplishments in their respective field and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire. The candidate must be currently legally eligible to work in the United States.

Prior teaching experience (at least two years—or equivalent professional mentorship) is preferred, and ProTools certification is highly desired. Additional expertise in film sound design, on-set film sound recording, and/or game sound design is highly desirable. Union affiliation, such as with IOTC, TSDCA, or USA, is a plus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in live theatrical sound design, theatrical sound reinforcement, and audio post-production for film, including mixing, foley, ADR, and sound editing. The candidate must be able to use and teach industry standard software such as ProTools, Avid, Adobe Premiere and related tools.
