Student Experiential Learning Spotlight

Animal Sciences sophomore Andi Salto Pastor recently gained hands-on exotic wildlife experience in Costa Rica!

"I'm a sophomore in Animal Sciences on the Pre-Vet track with the goal of becoming an exotic wildlife vet. This summer, I spent two unforgettable weeks in Costa Rica through Loop Abroad, gaining hands-on experience at the Jaguar Rescue Center in Talamanca.
On campus, I’m a Resident Advisor for IKE North, involved in Dr. Dilger’s Health and Nutrition Lab, a Course Assistant for ANSC 100, and serving as Pre-Vet Club Secretary for the upcoming year!"

Student Experiential Learning Spotlight

Animal Sciences senior Lauren Reynolds recently gained hands-on veterinary experience at Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital!

"Every day brought something new. I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients—from birds and reptiles to rabbits, ferrets, and other exotic animals. Seeing unique cases like the ones pictured made every shift an incredible learning experience and helped me build valuable hands-on clinical skills."

Experiential learning opportunities like this prepare our students for careers in veterinary medicine by turning classroom knowledge into real-world experience. 🧡💙
