🐾 The Upper St. Clair School District welcomed more than 4,000 students back to school on Wednesday, Aug. 19, marking the start of the 2026-27 school year. From first-day smiles and new beginnings to reconnecting with friends and teachers, there was plenty of excitement across our six schools.

🐾 A former Upper St. Clair High School locker room has been transformed into a fully functional apartment designed to help students develop the skills they need to live more independently.

The USC Independence & Wellness Suite – Apartment 404A was created this summer by the district’s maintenance team as an immersive learning environment for students in the high school’s special education programs. The space includes a kitchen, laundry facilities, bathroom, bedroom and living areas, providing students with opportunities to practice everyday tasks in a safe, supportive setting. 🙌

🐾 Boyce Middle School sixth grader Isabelle Kandrack recently helped the United States Youth Futsal (USYF) International team capture a tournament championship in Brazil, defeating Argentina in the championship match. Isabelle also earned an individual honor, receiving the Artilheiro Award, presented to the tournament’s leading goal scorer. 🙌

🐾 From the outside of USCHS, the building may look the same, but once you walk through the doors, there are several brand new and innovative spaces that educators said will enhance the learning experience for students this school year. 🙌

🐾 USC senior Ryan Robbins has grown on the football field, earning All-Conference honors in his first season as a starter last fall. He then saw his recruitment soar, going from having two MAC offers entering last season to owning offers from some of college football’s heavyweights.

Robbins ultimately committed to Penn State in late April. Rivals ranks him the No. 30 offensive lineman in the country and the No. 13 senior in Pennsylvania. 🙌

🐾 The Upper St. Clair School District kicked off the 2026-27 school year Thursday, Aug. 13, with its annual Opening Day celebration, welcoming teachers, paraprofessionals, school counselors, school nurses, school psychologists and other staff members back to campus. 🙌

🐾 Eleven individuals have been selected for induction into the USCHS Halls of Fame. Alumni, retired members of the faculty and administration, as well as former theater sponsors will be honored at the 27th annual event on Thursday, Sept. 24. 🙌

🐾 USCHS senior Kiki Smith recently had the opportunity to write an article for LUMOS, about her experiences with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, where she has attended multiple festivals throughout her high school career. 🙌

🐾 Rasika Khedikar witnessed food insecurity up close when she visited the city of Nagpur in central India with her family at age 12. When she returned, she decided to address the issue.

Rasika’s solution was to form the Cooking With Care club at her high school to help address food insecurity in her community.

She was recently named the recipient of the 2026 Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Award, presented by the Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee Donor Advised Fund and Jewish Community Center. 🙌
