In addition to this page I offer fee based one on one nutrition and life coaching and individualized meal plans. I am not a doctor or nutritionist. I am not recommending any specific diet. I am a health and life coach bringing you my experiences as a self taught layman that led me to losing over 100 pounds in a year eating everything. I had been on every "diet" known to man. I was never able to ac

hieve my goal weight and “yo yo” dieting led me to gain back all the weight each time plus interest. I do not believe in diets. My husband passed away when he was 53 years old. He had been a diabetic since age 27. When I met him he was 37 and had a few extra pounds but he certainly was not obese. He genetically was predisposed to diabetes. His grandmother suffered from it terribly and was 99 pounds soaking wet. Marks diabetes went from bad to worse once he started taking insulin. Insulin makes you hungry and so starts a vicious cycle with gaining weight so the doctors add more insulin along with many other medications. Diabetes is a killer. However type 2 diabetes which is adult onset is reversible if caught early enough and can be reversed with weight control, healthy eating and excercise. When my husband followed the eating plan I set forth for him it had an immediate effect on his blood sugar numbers, blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol everything. But he had a very stressful job and during his busy seasons he did not stick with the plan. Eventually his kidneys gave out at age 49 and he ended up on dialysis. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer four years later and passed away one week shy of his 54th birthday. He was an amazing person but he didn't do one thing...and that was take care of the only thing that matters which is your self and your health. There is a direct link to diabetes and pancreatic cancer. Being on dialysis is bad enough but losing your life to pancreatic cancer is a level of terrible no one should ever know. I myself was a diabetic. I was not on insulin but I had the disease along with high blood pressure and was clinically obese. I lost my father at age 13. The exact same scenario happened at the exact same age to my youngest son. I knew what it was like to grow up without a father. It stunk. I never wanted this to happen to my children but it did. It took myself time to get my children and myself through the grieving process after Mark passed away and I made a promise to myself that I would do everything in my power to be there for my boys. And that meant taking care of me. I went to see a new endocrinologist and my A1C which is your average blood sugar level over a said period of time was extremely high. I told the doctor that I wanted to have the gastric sleeve surgery as I knew weight loss and control was the only way I could get rid of this incidious disease along with the high blood pressure and acid reflux I had. When I told her what I wanted to do and asked for her thoughts she didn't think it was a good idea and told me she had a patient who did it and never lost weight. Mind you “one” patient. She proceeded to write me a prescription for a once a week injectable. More medication which is hard on your kidneys and just puts a bandaid on the problem instead of fixing the cause. Never once did she suggest I see a nutritionist, give me a food plan... nothing. Why? Because medical doctors unless they make it a point to become educated in nutrition are only required to take a few courses in nutrition in medical school. Pretty scary, They are taught to fix things with medicine. The largest funding of medical schools comes from pharmaceutical companies. Need I say more. I left the doctors office, got into my car and immediately made an appointment to see the gastric weight loss surgeon. I knew percent I was taking the most important step I will have ever taken in my life to insure that I would finally get healthy. I did the gastric sleeve which is the least invasive of the gastric weight loss surgeries which reduces the size of your stomach while leaving your intenstines totally in tact. I had my surgery two months later and one year from that date I reached my goal weight and lost just over 100 pounds. I am no longer a diabetic, do not have high blood pressure and no longer have acid reflux and take no other medication. Surprise, surprise!! All fixed with weight loss, weight control, nutrition and very moderate doable excecise. Ah you may be saying she lost the weight because she had the surgery. Wrong. I belong a couple of Gastric Weight Loss Surgery support groups. You would be amazed how many people do the surgery and do not lose any weight or very little because they do not change their mind set or what they are eating. This is a tool not a miracle. Even though they can't eat as much if they drink milk shakes which go down very easily and the foods they eat are high calorie foods that are loaded with sugar and fat they are not doing to lose anything. Like with anything else in life if you what to see a different result you have to make changes and be committed to them with a thought out plan. Without a plan you will be forever lost or stay exactly where you are. So why has this time been different then every other time? I changed my thinking and behavior. There is nothing that I have not eaten that I wanted to. I use the 80/20 rule. My food choices are healthy choices 80-90 percent of the time so when I want to splurge I can and do but it is the exception not the rule. Throughout my entire weight loss I dined out often and I never Felt deprived. I took baby steps, gradually changed my thinking so my behaviors have become automatic and I achieved my goal one step at a time. All gastric weight loss surgery is, is a tool, for people with a very unhealthy high BMI to have a chance at a better life. You have to still do all the work or it will not work and that means staying the course forever which I am totally committed to doing for myself and my children. The people who are the greatest successes are those who have failed many, many times on the way to victory. I can certainly attest to that. Failure is fine as long as you learn from it. A few times a week I will talk about different topics related to nutrition, weight control, challenges, solutions and excercise. I will also post recipes, and share new healthy product finds. This is an open forum and I encourage each of you to share with me and the group your struggles and victories as well as your healthy recipes. This should be a place to acquire knowledge and give and receive encouragement and support. We are all at different places in our journey. Some people want to maintain their weight, some people have 5 or 10 lbs they want to lose. Others want to lose a great deal of weight and age and gender also present their own challenges in the mix. Weight loss is 90 percent about eating. Calories in versus calories out. You can excercise all you want but if you do not change the way you eat you will not lose weight. I think excercise is very important to our overall health. There is no question. In a day from the time I get up until the time I go to sleep I rarely sit down. I move a lot. Am I lifting weights? No. Will I when I feel comfortable to go to the gym once I feel it is safe to be there probably but for now I just take a lot of steps and work out with some lighter weights at home. I am so looking forward to working with each of you and getting to hear about your experiences, recipes, listening to your challenges and wisdom and sharing mine.

Here is to a great journey of health! Janet Moskowitz

INSTRUCTIONS
* In a small bowl, with a fork, mix together the seasoning ingredients to create a paste.

Not sure what to do with your leftover Turkey? This Curry Turkey is great!

Leftover Curry Turkey
An easy recipe for a very flavorful dish.
The ingredients you’ll need
Here’s an overview of what you’ll need to make this tasty curry. The exact measurements are included in the recipe card below.
Oil: I use avocado oil or you can use EVOO

Veggies: I use chopped onions and sliced bell peppers. It’s easy to use a frozen mix of sliced peppers, and you can cook them from frozen. But you can also use fresh peppers.
Aromatics: Garlic and ginger add a ton of flavor to this tasty curry.
Spices: I make a spice mix with salt, pepper, curry powder, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.
How to make leftover turkey curry
It’s a super easy recipe! The detailed instructions are included in the recipe card below. Here are the basic steps:
1. Your first step is to mix the spices.
2. Now saute the veggies in some oil.
3. Add the garlic and ginger and the spices, then add the turkey. Stir to make sure everything is well-coated.
Cornstarch: It helps thicken the curry. Without it, you’ll basically have soup – admittedly tasty soup, but soup nonetheless. If you’d rather avoid cornstarch, I believe there are alternatives such as konjac flour.
4. Now add the broth and simmer for a short while to allow the flavors to meld.
5. The last step is to thicken the curry with cornstarch. Remember to mix it first with a bit of cold water.
Voila! You’ve got yourself a hot, filling, and very flavorful curry. And needless to say, this recipe works beautifully with leftover chicken too.
