Congratulations ODVGC on your Champion ribbon won at this year's Dutchess County Fair! A few members of our club and some friends put together from scratch this wonderful exhibit now viewable in the Horticulture Building. The garden represents a Revolutionary era kitchen garden. A special tribute goes to Cathy Michael who organized the project, and thank you to all who participated.

As Fall approaches, ODVGC members will be ready! Cornell Cooperative Extension will present "Putting Your Garden To Bed" at our Sept. 10 meeting. On October 8, Linda Lawson will lead members in an activity on Painted Pumpkins. On November 12, Theresa Burke's presentation will be on "Bird House Gourds."

ODVGC meetings are held at St. John's Reformed Church in Upper Red Hook, the second Thursday of most months, 12:30 pm. Our meetings often include speakers who like us want to advance home gardening, build civic pride in our community, and maintain our natural resources. We hope to see you at our meetings!

Old Dutch Village Garden Club members met at Clermont Park on July 9 for our annual picnic. We were reminded that our members are great cooks as well as great gardeners. Despite some very warm weather that week, we found a large shady spot with breezes from the river- very comfortable! Our entertainer for the event, Carol Annas, showed off her talents as an auctioneer and the auction sold out!! Thanks to Carol and all 17 club members who brought themselves and wonderful food! Meanwhile, our member Linda DiGasper, who has been a master gardener, showed off her garden on the July 19th garden tour sponsored by Dirty Gaia. Her yard focuses on native plants, creating a natural habitat and is a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

Look for future posts about our upcoming meetings in the Fall! See you then!

After ODVGC's very successful May 16 plant sale- we sold over 1200 perennials and shrubs- we now look to the future and further exciting events. On June 11, Thomas Johnson will speak on Monarch Butterflies, at 12:30 pm, St. John's Reformed Church, Red Hook. A very timely subject indeed. We are also preparing a booth for the Horticultural exhibition at the Dutchess County Fair.

ODVGC started off the summer season with an impressive turnout at our plant sale May 16. We want to thank all the local gardeners who purchased our plants, and donated plants from their own gardens, helping to beautify our community and contribute to our club's activities. We sold over 1200 perennials, shrubs, and even a few houseplants in the mix. Here is a photo of buyers searching over the plants just after we opened the sale.
