We have the most amazing teachers! Ms. Jenkins hand crocheted turtles for all 27 of our 1st grade students to have as reading buddies over the summer. Each year Ms. Jenkins hand makes reading buddies for the students moving on to 2nd grade. What an incredible gift!

Congratulations to our 26 amazing Eighth Graders as they matriculate to nine outstanding high schools! We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and excited for the bright futures that lie ahead. May God continue to guide, bless, and inspire each of you on this next chapter of your journey!

Last evening, we had the pleasure of honoring Mrs. Rachele Pla for being selected as a recipient of the Archdiocese of Washington’s Golden Apple Award. Mrs. Pla was chosen for this prestigious honor in recognition of her outstanding contributions to our Catholic school community, the Church, and society as a whole.

Mrs. Pla is an exceptional educator who exemplifies a daily commitment to living out the Catholic faith. Through her dedication, compassion, and leadership, she inspires both students and colleagues alike to see the face of Jesus reflected in one another and to strive to do the same in their own lives.

St. Mary of the Assumption’s Field Day 2026 was filled with excitement, fun games, and outstanding sportsmanship! Congratulations to the Green Team for earning the highest overall score across all competitions! A special thank you to our extraordinary parent volunteers, our exceptional teachers and staff organizers, our dedicated community partners, and—most importantly—our amazing students who made the day such a joy!

Yesterday afternoon, we were blessed to welcome guests, members, and new inductees to the Spring 2026 Induction Ceremony and Presentation of Stoles of the Sister Mary Thomasina Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society!

Today, following Mass, our school community joyfully celebrated the May Crowning of the Blessed Mother, for whom St. Mary of the Assumption School is named. 🌸👑

It was a beautiful and prayerful celebration, made especially meaningful for our second graders, who recently received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, and our eighth graders, who recently celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation.

We are grateful for this special day and for the many blessings bestowed upon our school community.

Teaching in a Catholic school is ‘my special calling,’ Golden Apple award winner says - Catholic Standard For Rachele Plá, a longtime educator at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, one of the most important lessons she teaches is “helping students learn the true meaning of their vocation in life.”
