Dear Upper Darby School District Families,
We wanted to provide an update on food service and food insecurity at this time. The Upper Darby School District participates in the Community Eligibility Provision, which is a federal meal service option that allows the district to feed all of its students breakfast and lunch for free, and by doing so, the district receives reimbursement through the state for those meals served. At this time, the state has no budget passed, and the funds that allow for that reimbursement are in question. The district is committed to doing everything in its power to continue to serve all of our students two meals a day. At this time, we have sufficient district food service funds to continue to feed our students breakfast and lunch through December, 2025.
In addition, we know that many of our families receive SNAP benefits, and that those benefits have also been suspended due to the same budget freeze. A list of resources in our community that provide food to Upper Darby families at no cost can be found here:
We will provide an update to state and federal funding, and its impact on food service, as soon as that information becomes available.
