I work with these behaviors every day in the classroom, and one thing I’ve learned is that sometimes we know the behavior we want to stop—we just don’t know what to SAY in the moment.

So I put together a FREE little resource for my parents, teachers & fellow educators.

Sometimes it’s not about being more strict—it’s about having the right words in the moment. 💗

These 5 simple “What to Say Instead” phrases can help you redirect behavior while still being gentle, clear & firm with your boundaries.

And remember:

Word Building Fun 🔤✨

Summer is winding down, which means it’s the perfect time to start getting our preschoolers kindergarten ready! 🎒📚

In this hands-on word-building activity, the child sounds out each word card, identifies the individual sounds, and then matches the word to the corresponding object.

Using real, movable objects makes early reading more concrete and engaging for young learners while helping strengthen:

✨ Phonemic awareness
✨ Letter-sound recognition
✨ Sound blending
✨ Early reading skills
✨ Vocabulary
✨ Confidence and independence

Hands-on learning gives children the opportunity to see it, touch it, sound it out, and make the connection. 🧠💛

Short “O” CVC fun!

In the Montessori language curriculum, CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words are introduced after children have developed strong phonemic awareness (hearing sounds in words) and know the letter sounds (not just letter names). Letter recognition will naturally follow when after a child learns their sounds.

So this is your sign to stop 🛑 teaching your child or students that ABC’s & start teaching the actual letter sound. Pick a vowel and a consonant such as (ot, ap, it, or ed) be sure to go over what sound the VC makes. Now, create a list of the VC sound number from 1-8. Put a line in front of the VC & switch up the consonant at the beginning for each one. Let the child try & sound out what it says.

This process makes “reading” fun & definitely builds the child’s self esteem!

Every year looks different. I love the community & the village that has been built around HLC. I thank God for allowing me to teach & provide children with a fun, loving, and personable learning environment.

I have the best families ever. I do hold them dear to my heart. Hats off to year 4!!!!

At Heart + Mind Learning Center, our days are filled with learning, laughter, friendships, and FUN!

📚Read Across America was this past week check out a few things we did our classroom!

🧦 Crazy Sock Day- We had fun pairing & folding socks

🩷 CVC Word Fun- Prepared for each child’s level of language

🎩 Dr. Seuss Hats- Practical life activity working those fine motor skills to strengthen those muscles for writing!

It’s nic me to celebrate 🎉 a theme. But here at Heart & Mind we need to walk away learning and gaining skills or knowledge from that them! And we did plenty more but…I can’t share all my grand ideas 🤭
