Preschool was blessed with a very special hands on learning reptile experience in honor of Grant’s 5th birthday!
It was AMAZING.
As you’ll see by the pictures the children were quite interested, some enjoyed handling the animals, while some preferred to observe. Fun was had by all, including the teachers!
A special thank you to the Nichols family for this treat, and a shout out to So Cal Jungle Reptile Parties. You are fantastic.
I encourage everyone to check out their page and consider them for any future events.

“There are those who question the "rigor" of a play-based curriculum when, in fact, we're engaged in the most rigorous curriculum known to mankind. There is simply no greater or more important challenge than the one of balancing our own individual desires and needs with those of the other humans with whom we find ourselves.”

BIG and exciting things happened this week at
Grace Lutheran!
Our old tired garden received an incredibly beautiful and purposeful revival.
We are beyond excited and grateful for this blessing.
The purpose of the renovation will enhance the children's daily interactions in the garden by making it a permanent and central part of the play yard. This will create a space where the children can learn to be good stewards of the Earth, how to garden, observe plant life cycles, and enjoy daily hands-on experiences for caring for our Earth, while most importantly, always being safe. As it was the time we spent in the garden was on a very limited basis due to ratio and safety.
The new garden includes 4 raised garden beds with a timed watering system, 2 fruit trees, a farm sink for the children to wash their hands, a bench/table and a new outdoor habitat for Elvie.
A heartfelt thank you to the generous, thoughtful and loving donors, and family, who made this dream come true.
We would also like to thank Art Vieyra @ California Green and his amazing team for bringing our dream to life! Our hearts our bursting with joy and gratitude, and we can’t wait for the children to see it! ❤️

The window of early childhood is brief, yet so very critical. So much development occurs is the first 7 years of a human’s life!

Setting Limits With Toddlers - The Choices They Can't Make - Janet Lansbury
‘Respect’ is vital to parenting, but the word can confuse us, especially when it comes to setting limits with toddlers. Children need lots of opportunities to be autonomous and have their choices respected. At the same time, they also need to know they’re not in charge, and we demonstrate that...

At Grace Lutheran Preschool we spend our days cherishing childhood; it’s a VERY small window of time. Everyday we are learning to work with and care for one another, develop a strong confident sense of self, and a lifelong love of learning, among so many many other things❤️

Cultivating Empathy ❤️
Research shows that every individual is born with an innate level of empathy.
Some children are just naturally more empathetic than others.
But although empathy is skill we can be born with, it is also a skill we can CULTIVATE & DEVELOP in our children.
Empathy is an foundational skill for children to develop as it’s an important part of
🌈 successfully navigating social situations & relationships,
🌈 making good decisions,
🌈 adding a positive contribution to society.
Empathy is grown through curiosity & taking time to imagine someone else’s experiences.
You can develop empathy in your child through:
💛 Reading books together
💛 Hearing other people’s stories
💛 Experiencing different cultures
💛 Traveling to different places (hopefully in the future!)
💛 Including perspective-taking in conflict resolution
💛 Asking “How do you think that might have made them feel?”
💛 Asking “How would you feel in that situation?”
Note: deficits in empathetic behavior are a part of the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This doesn’t mean that children with autism have no empathy, but rather have cognitive challenges recognizing & seeing things from another person’s perspective.

Couldn't agree more with this perspective from Dr. Meghan Owenz:
"The more a child has the ability to work through their boredom by finding new activities, the less they’ll be bored because their creativity will start to grow. In fact, you should do a little dance every time you hear your child whine that they’re bored because something amazing is about to happen."
