Last week, we recognized Indiana Intern Day by celebrating our summer interns and everything they accomplished during their time with NearSpace.

To wrap up the summer, Isaac, Chase, Nathan, Levi, and Deyton each gave a final presentation highlighting the projects they worked on, the skills they developed, and what they learned throughout their internships. It was a great way to reflect on their hard work and celebrate their growth.

Thank you, Isaac, Chase, Nathan, Levi, and Deyton, for everything you brought to the NearSpace team this summer. We appreciate your dedication and wish you all the best in what's ahead!

Please join us in welcoming Chris Shively to the NearSpace Education team!

We are excited to have Chris joining us as we continue to grow our programs and create even more opportunities for students across our community.

Chris brings more than 25 years of experience in education, having served as both a classroom teacher at Eastbrook Community Schools and most recently as the High Ability Director for Mississinewa Community Schools. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to helping students discover their potential, challenge themselves, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

His passion for education, wealth of experience, and commitment to students make him a fantastic addition to the NearSpace Education family. We know he will play an important role as we continue to inspire, equip, and impact the next generation of innovators, creators, and problem solvers.

Please help us give Chris a warm NearSpace Education welcome! We are excited for all that lies ahead.

Welcome to the team, Chris!

What an incredible final week of summer camp at NearSpace Education!

We were thrilled to once again partner with the Wolfpack CubeSat Development Team from Florida and welcome an amazing group of students to Upland. This week brought together local students from Grant County with students from across Indiana, around the country, and even around the world.

Our campers represented Norway, Israel, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and communities throughout Indiana. It was incredible to watch students from so many different backgrounds come together, build friendships, solve problems, explore STEM, and learn from one another.

We were also excited to host the Wolfpack as they worked alongside NearSpace on WolfSat-1. This CubeSat is being developed for a planned 2027 launch aboard a Firefly Alpha rocket, giving students the opportunity to contribute to a real space mission and see how classroom learning can connect to the aerospace industry.

We are thankful not only for this unforgettable week, but for every student, family, instructor, volunteer, donor, and partner who helped make all of our summer camps possible this year.

As we wrap up another amazing summer, we are already excited to begin planning for next year and dreaming about the future of NearSpace Education’s summer programs.

Thank you to everyone who made this summer one to remember!

Girls in STEM Week is underway at NearSpace Education!

The girls are having an amazing time developing hands-on STEM skills through CAD design, soldering, engineering, and experimentation.

We are especially excited for Thursday’s high-altitude balloon launch, when several of the experiments they soldered and assembled will travel to the top 1% of Earth’s atmosphere!

It is incredible to watch these students turn their ideas into real experiments and prepare them for a journey to near space.

What an incredible week working with Space Center Houston and their Space Center University program!

Our team had the opportunity to support students as they launched high-altitude balloons using our NSE high-altitude balloon kit. During the flights, we were able to receive live data from the students’ micro:bit experiments, giving them a real-time look at their payloads in action.

Seeing students connect their own coding, sensors, and experiment designs to live data from the edge of space is exactly what hands-on STEM is all about.

A huge thank-you to Space Center Houston for allowing us to be part of such an inspiring program. We are excited to continue helping students dream big, launch higher, and experience real-world aerospace learning in action!

We had an amazing time partnering with Reinvented Magazine on this exciting video project and launch experience! It was especially awesome getting students from Eastbrook South Elementary School involved in the experiment and giving them the opportunity to be part of a real high-altitude balloon launch.

These kinds of hands-on STEM experiences are exactly what we love creating at NearSpace Education, inspiring students through real-world space and science opportunities.

If your student would like to be part of experiences like this, check out our summer camp options! We still have a few spots available, and scholarship funding is also available for families who may need assistance.
